  1. Thanks for all the suggestions! I am a little concerned about whether there will be contrast when I remove the stripes--the paint is still in good shape, not too faded, so I may try a small area first before I remove the large pieces.
  2. What is the best way to remove the vinyl hockey sticks from the sides of a Comanche? Mine are faded and torn, want to remove them, but do not want to damage the paint which is in good condition. Thanks for any ideas!
  3. There is an orange 1987 or 88 Comanche on sale on EBA for $9995.00. I saw this truck at Mecum's auction last Wednesday, January 21. It was painted all over with orange Rhinoliner. Seemed to be in sound shape, but would be very difficult to repaint. Did not appeal to me. Here is the most interesting thing--it sold for $2500!!!
  4. Problem solved. I needed a new fuel pump. Apparently the old pump was working, but not delivering the right pressure and sometimes cutting out all together. Now runs like a top!
  5. Thanks. I'll wait for the pics. The price is good.
  6. Hi, thanks for the pics. It looks like the bolt pattern may be different from what I need, but I will check. It is different from my stock plastic cover, but I may be able to use it if the bolt pattern is the same. Do you know whether your cover will fit an 89 model 2.5? I'm not sure how important the connections/pcv fittings are. Also, the oil fill is definitely in a different position from mine, but that may not matter. Will try to get back with you after I check the bolt pattern. What is the price? Thanks again!
  7. Looking for stock plastic air cleaner box for '89 2.5L. Other years may work, but I am not sure which ones. The box I need has three inlets: 1 large inlet for the air duct from the throttle body, and I think two inlets from the top of the valve cover. Thanks!
  8. WTB--aluminum valve cover for 1989 2.5L, with no cracks or defects, thanks!
  9. I noticed that on the later model cover, there was only one grommeted hole for a vent hose, but on the earlier covers (like mine) there are two such holes (in addition to the oil fill hole). Don't know if that fact would preclude use of a later cover on an earlier engine. Hate to risk buying a metal cover only to find out later that it won't work on the earlier engines. Oh well.....
  10. After reading the post about using a 1991+ valve cover, I found one on Ebay that was supposed to be off a Wrangler. However, looking closely at the cover and comparing it to the covers for other 2.5L engines (both comanches and wranglers) it appeared to have a different bolt pattern. After further research, I think the cover on Ebay was from a 1993 Dakota 2.5L and definitely has a different bolt pattern. In view of that fact, I don't see how the Dakota 2.5L gasket could work. Would appreciate others chiming in on this issue.
  11. Thanks for the help!!
  12. I have a 1989 2wd, 2.5L Comanche that runs well, but have a problem with the oil leaking out of the valve cover. I have replaced the gasket, but still have same problem. I have been heard two different things: (1) maybe the plastic valve cover should be replaced, and (2) that there is a fix that can be done which involves adding some additional studs to the head so that the valve cover can be secured more tightly to the head. Would like to know how others have addressed this problem. Thanks in advance!
  13. Hi: I have a 1989 MJ, 2.5L, AX-15 5 speed. The truck is in great condition and until recently was a daily driver. The problem I have is that when the air temperature is cool, as in the early morning, the truck will start but does not want to hold idle, then dies. After it warms up a little, I can drive it but it cuts out frequently and then dies and has to be restarted. When it cuts out, its as if its either getting no fuel at all, or no spark at all. Usually, after it sits in the sun for an hour or so and warms up, the problem seems to go away, but always comes back later. I have replaced the distributor cap and the TBS and initially that seemed to help, but the problem came back. I have had it to a mechanic that I trust, but he seems to be at a loss for what's causing the problem. Could a bad maps sensor be causing this? Any advice would be welcome. Thanks!
  14. located in north florida. would like simple black painted bumper, paint condition not important, would like one that's straight with no dents. Understand that bumpers from 1986-92 comanches and dakotas would work. Thanks. Respond to this post or call 904-545-7883. Thanks.
  15. Hey, did those Rubi wheels fit on the 87 Comanche without an adapter? I have an 89 Comanche, but I didn't think those style wheels would fit the stock bolt pattern I have (5X4.5") Madmax
  16. Can I replace my old faded black plastic door handles on my 89 MJ with the nice chrome ones on some of the XJs? Was wondering if they were interchangeable and, if so, which model years would work. I see quite a few nice chrome handles on salvage XJs at the local U Pull It. Thanks for any help.
  17. Thanks for the quick answers!
  18. Akula69--I'm still interested in the mouldings you have--when you get a chance to post the pics I will be in touch with you. Thanks, Madmax
  19. Wondering if I can salvage a driver's side door rubber weatherstripping moulding from a four door XJ and use if on my MJ's driver side door? They look the same. Appreciate any input. Madmax.
  20. WTB, in Florida, need the chrome upper and lower mouldings above and below the front grille of a 1989 Comanche. Not sure which years other than 89 will work. I need the ones that extend all the way across to the bezel for the turn signal lense.
  21. I want to add baby moons to my 1989 2wd Comanche. The moons won't go on the stock rallye style wheels and black center caps. Are there other 15X7 wheels I could use that would have the nubs necessary for the baby moons? Maybe Chevy or Ford with the same bolt pattern, which I think is 5X4.5?? Thanks!
  22. Thanks for the input. I discovered that the positive cable to the battery had rubbed up against a bracket holding a relay--probably for the last 21 years! The insulation wore through and the cable shorted out the battery. It killed the battery, but everything else seemed fine after I replaced the battery. I used some electrical tape to repair the cable and now am back in business. It is a mystery to me why the motor and lights did not continue to operate off the alternator, but they died instantly along with the engine. In forty some odd years of driving I have never experienced such a failure.
  23. Hi: I own a 1989 Comanche, 2.5 with 5 speed. This has been a very reliable, daily driver over the last year. I have even taken this truck on two 1000 mile trips. Anyway, tonight while driving home I experienced a complete shut down of all systems--one minute I was tooling along, lights on, radio blasting, and then suddenly everything shut off in an instant: motor, radio, lights. I coasted to a parking spot and then checked battery cables which seemed secure. There is absolutely no electrical power at all. Is this simply a battery problem? Could it be the ECU?? Please help!!!
