  1. Haha you have a good eye! That last pic was just for the TPS. I considered laying it all out for someone to label but thought that might be too much so I tried to find those parts in the background via part numbers. thats quite helpful thank you!
  2. So I picked up this 90s Comanche with a whole bed full of parts. Owner insisted they were impossible to find and to keep all of it just in case. i want through it last night and scrapped probably 25% and another 25% I’ll likely sell. If I can source it easily online why store it imo. Also some of this stuff is straight up trash. Anyway he had a lot of random wire connectors, ECUs, and things I’ve never seen. I’m not super familiar, I just work on stuff as it’s needed. The truck has a 4.0 from a 99 Cherokee and an AW4 from an 88. I suspect some of these parts are from after the swap. Any thoughts on what I should do? Also how would I test these?? I was able to determine the rest of the stuff generally. Most of this stuff seems like hoarded garbage honestly. btw I have an okay tailgate, 2 rear bumpers (okay shape), and front header piece that goes behind the grill I think?? an exhaust manifold, a lot of door mirrors (good shape I think) and and exhaust pipe. A ton of triangle trim pieces for the mirrors. Also 3 sets of tailgate housings. And a long bed xtra large gas tank. I have a short bed, debating if I modify for that. If you guys need something PM me and I can give more details. Some I’ll sell but some I may just give away. I’m in PA.
  3. Took me a while to figure this out, best I can tell my comanche has the AW4 auto tranny in it. It's a 1990 comanche with a 1999 XJ 4.0 but a 1988 transmission and transfer case. I had an 01 Cherokee a few years ago and didn't have this issue. I'm curious if I should be concerned or if this is a sign of something I can address: This truck shifts fine in drive and the other gears. It's not that it's performing badly. But I seem to have trouble feeling where it's at when I move the shifter. When I put it in drive it wants to go down then back up before it locks into place. And 1-2 and 3 section feels pretty sloppy and I can tell sort of but it doesn't feel very clear which one it's locking into. I tested all of them and it seems to shift just fine when driving. I have a TJ but it's got a manual tranny. I'm not super familiar with these autos. If I recall correctly the Cherokee I had there was no question it was locking into each position solidly. Maybe it's normal for 1988...
  4. Ahh I’ll look through this! I’m still a bit nervous going with xj instructions, is literally everything in the front of the truck XJ? There’s no little Easter eggs I should be aware of? edit - I just looked through the truck records again, he put an ‘88 tranny with a ‘99 4.0 whoops. Not sure that really matters. I’ll crawl under and see what kind it is.
  5. Hello! I'm super new to comanches and this forum has been incredibly helpful (and nice to boot). I took your suggestions with my lift situation, I got it back to stock everything. I have no interest in wheeling and like the little truck as is -- I have a wrangler for wheeling At any rate, while wrenching on it I noticed it's leaking out the radiator and it only leaks when I run it. Not just pressure it up, it has to be driving. Then I come back and it's got a puddle of red ATF fluid in the corner. Seems like it's either the cooler portion of the radiator or the connection itself. I know nothing about this, the TJ I have is a manual so none of this. I did some searching and it seems people HATE these cooler lines. So much so that they replace them with something. But I'm not familiar enough to determine what they're replacing it with?? I suspect I need the stock setup because I live in the north east and it gets below freezing all winter -- seems the stock setup is more of a transmission warmer vs cooler. Would it be wise to just buy the stock lines on rock auto and replace? Is there some upgrade I should look into? I'm confused by this whole concept haha. -- I should probably just find the FSM and do some more digging there. BTW, PO tells me this 1990 comanche has a 4.0 engine and auto tranny from a 1999 Cherokee -- not sure this matters and not sure they even replaced this radiator ever.
  6. I looked up this Bilstein 24185622 part number provided and it suggest it's for a truck with 2-3" lift. I can't seem to find one for stock height. Also, is the front the same as the rear in terms of shock p/n?
  7. Yep I can snap some pics tonight if needed. I'm somewhat confident in stock vs not...I'll post em if I have any issues. Thanks for the detailed response. This is exactly what I was leaning towards. I see no reason to spend big bucks to get stock height. I will inspect my bushings and see what's what. For the price I'll likely go your route and just rock auto all the parts you suggested. Btw I read your build, it looks similar to what I'll be diving into, it's in decent shape but floor panels are not great. Not as bad as yours but 2 holes patched by the PO and not really done right. I'm curious...why not go with bilsteins for the rear shocks? I used bilsteins for an XJ I had years ago and agree they're top notch and worked beautifully.
  8. I bought a 1990 Comanche that’s mostly solid. One thing that bothered me is the 3” rough country lift. I’m very confused because he sent me the link of what he thinks he installed but I’m definitely looking at stock control arms. He has RC shocks (can only find the ID number stamped on it) and probably springs. The rest of the kit I do not see installed. I have no idea what he did. It drives alright but when weighed down it’s a bit squirrelly. i have experience installing a top of the line lift for my TJ about 10 years ago. I know all the details and important pieces and this was clearly a crap brand and crap job. I would like to bring it to stock height or as close as I can go and do quiality parts and never look back. It’s my daily and will never see off-road (that’s what my wrangler is for 😃) Brands and kits are underwhelming for the MJ. For TJ I settled with metal cloak with savvy/currie being a close second (was sold out at the time). Best I can see is OME or Rusty’s off-road. The rest are pretty lame but I was curious if anyone good makes close to stock height. Or should I just go rock auto stock parts? Also I’m new to leaf springs, how can I tell if they’re sagging, and how do I know if this guy modified the leafs for the lift? Thanks!
