  1. I like it. With the spare on the side, it pays hommage to that late 50 Willys truck look.
  2. I think my daughter would have a problem with that. She's already claimed it for herself for when she turns 16 in a year, so thats our project together. My son is almost 13 so if nothing comes along anytime soon, I'll claim the need for an MJ project for him in a year or so. Heck, even if something comes along sooner, I'll claim that! :)
  3. Its not the money thats the problem, its the having too many projects and not getting any done before another comes along. So for now, I guess I need to live vicariously through y'all and keep my eye out for that deal that can't be passed up. I'm not above asking for forgiveness rather than permission when the right opportunity comes along, but after 18 years of marriage I've learned to pick my battles. :) And heck, I'm still holding out hope that I'll find my old MJ. -Mike
  4. I've been a lurker here for a couple weeks now so I thought it was time to join in the 12-step program here and say hi, my name is Mike, and I have a problem... LOL As I posted in the "How & why did you get into MJ's?" thread a few days ago - I bought an MJ new off the lot back in '86 and sold it about 6 years later to an older man from my church who died a few years later. Recently I picked up a '91 YJ project and realized how much I missed that old MJ. I tried to find it, but I pretty much tracked it to a dead end. The kid the widow sold it to, then traded it in at a dealer which doesn't exist any more. But by this time the bug has bit and I'm desperate to get another MJ as my next project. The problem is - DW would understand me getting my old truck back, but with the YJ still needing a fair amount of work and the house needing even more, I think I'd be up for a divorce if I dragged another stray home now - especially one that would be a money pit. So... Now I have this itch I can't scratch and its driving me crazy....
  5. I'm pretty sure he said manual - but he was real hard to understand. I clearly heard 4-speed and maybe I just assumed it was manual. After hearing the price, I wasn't willing to make the 1-1/2 hour drive (one-way) to look. But for someone looking for a good clean truck to get in and go this sounds like a pretty good deal, and I'd bet he could be talked down some.
  6. I spoke to a guy today who has 3 MJ's for sale in south-central Alabama. Two of them are 2wd (a 4.0L and a 2.5L). I didn't get any details on those since I wasn't interested in a 2wd. The other is an '88 4x4, 4.0L, 4-speed, 125K miles, supposed to be real nice. He wants $2800 for it - much more than I'm willing to spend (I'm looking for a $1000 project MJ). If any one is interested, they are located in Goshen, AL, about halfway between Troy and Luverne. His number is 334-372-2170. Good luck understanding him! - Mike
  7. I bought a dark blue '86 4x4 2.5L new off the lot when I was 19. I had been working at UPS making a ton of money (to me) and had just wrecked my first car (a '78 Monza). It was very plain - no A/C, no carpet, bench seat, steel wheels. But it was new and it was mine. I eventually put some aluminum wheels off a wrecked XJ Laredo with bigger tires and added carpet - but that was about it. Eventually I sold it to an older gentleman at my church so I could put a down payment on a XJ Laredo of my own. After he died several years later of cancer, I knew his wife kept it around for a while but I never really paid much attention to it and pretty much forgot all about it. Now recently I picked up a YJ project I've been working on with my 15 yr old daughter and I got to thinking what a cool project that old MJ could be. I contacted the daughter of the guy who I sold it to and she said it had been gone for several years now and she didn't know who bought it. Of course I was dissappointed, but the bug has bitten and now I want to either find it or find another one for my 13 yr old son and I to work on together as a project. Here's a pic of it just before I sold it in '92. This was in the gravel pit behind my house, and the kid in the picture was a spanish exchange student who was staying with me at the time.
