The common R12 conversion nowadays is to run propane. There's endless articles and Youtube videos out there on how to do it, as it's extremely simple. Propane has very similar properties to R12 in this application; is extremely safe to use; environmentally friendly compared to any manufactured refrigerant; cheap and reliable; very little needs to be done to convert.
