Looking to replace the bellows that go between the door and the door jamb that protects wiring. I have looked on jeep overstock and mopar overstock just to get the OEM parts#. Can't find it on these two websites. Does anyone know if there still available new? Would be nice to get new ones, mine are both split. Thanks Paul

welding axle housings
tarmac2dirt replied to tarmac2dirt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the encouraging info. Helps relieve the thought of warped housing. As it turns out there may be a d44 axel available instead from a 79 wagoneer. Have a feeling it may be to wide though it from a narrow body wagoner. Anyway thanks guys, Paul -
Hello, Looking for comments and solutions to welding on axle housings. Well for you guys that have been there-done that, have you had housing warp or bow from the welding. What can be done to prevent warping when installing perches , braces, shock mounts, etc----. Just asking as I plan to put a 8.8 ford at some point. Thanks Paul

Picked up a 94 4.0 to start building a 4.6l stroker later this year. May buy the scat kit, but not for sure yet. Would prefer the old 12CW heavy 258 crank. Guess if i do go with the scat crank i could use the Centerforce 700469 High Inertia Flywheel to gain some rotating force. Has any one here in the MJ bunch used this heavy flywheel. Just curious on any results. Thanks

Thanks fiatslug87, not going to ask about the xj flares, there are many topics about them not working. I just wasn't sure about the long and short bed flares. Mow I need to search for a right rear flare. Thanks guys

This will be a easy answer for the ppl that's been around more MJ's then me. Are the rear flares the same on short and long bed models. Thanks

Have a question about removing the metal trim pieces surrounding the door widows. This is the metal trim that is painted black. I have to trim it for the later xj mirrors and also want to refinish the coating on them. I searched and found a member trimming the but can't find how it is removed (without damaging). Thanks PAul

Thanks for your thought on this SVPete. I have many other things to do before I dig back into the weather stripping. I will post more on what I dig out of that spot and what I use to fill it back in. Need to finish the A/C first its getting hot here in New Mexico. Once that's finished I will work on the weather stripping and going to put in a electric window kit too. Thanks again

Getting ready to put all new weather seal in the MJ. I have already had it apart once and notices some dried up form sponge material in front top corner, notice the small hole area in pic. I can't seem to find any info on what this stuff is or how deep it goes into this spot. This foam material just crumbles when its touched. Any one have any ideas on replacing this foam, or how deep it goes in the small fixed window channel. Thanks

Thanks for the spring suggestions, looks like I will get the ome 930 front springs and get some JKS rear leaf shackles and that should sit my MJ were I want it. I have 30/9.50-15 tires now and don't want to go any larger. The 2 to 4wd swap begins next year. Thanks again

Looking for some advice on who has a good quality front spring. I have a 88 MJ 2wd and would like to lift it about 2" (no more). Would also like a non progressive wound type spring, just a good straight wound spring. I see that Rusty's suspension has a set of 2" springs , how is the quality. Lot of bad rap about Rusty's on the web, but I really don't know. What are some other choices that you guys have dealt with. Thanks

Thanks for the responses, I gave the local jeep dealer a try and found out that there still available. Price is about $63 each plus new hardware. so I guess I have will give them the business after the holidays. Thanks

Hello, Were or is there a good replacement front fender liner. I've done a search and seems like the crown liners are pretty cheap and thin material. Just going by what some members have said. Is there a source out there I have not found that makes a OEM equivalent or close to it in quality. Thanks Paul

Relay clicking left door jamb?
tarmac2dirt replied to tarmac2dirt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Might help if I give what year MJ. 1988 4.0 L, 5sp, 2wd long bed -
Hello, Well as the topic states, I hear a clicking on the drivers side. Sounds just like a relay clicking around the door jamb area, its been doing this for 8/9 months. Is there a relay in that area or could it be something else. I am curious to know before I start taking the interior all apart, maybe for nothing. Thanks

Hi, Have a question concerning an 1988 xj cherokee. Thinking of buying this to convert my MJ to 4X4 and wikipedia show dana 44 rear axles used cherokee's for years 1987 to 1991, Tow pkgs only. My question is there a way to know from the VIN #. if the cherokee has the tow pkg. The cherokee is 150 miles from my location so i thought there may be another way to find out if it has a 44 rear axle before i run off to look at it. Thanks

drill/ slotted rotors??
tarmac2dirt replied to tarmac2dirt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for some quick answers, I will go ahead and by new regular rotors and some good semi metallic pads. I will look more into the booster swap, I know there are a few threads in here about this swap. Thanks -
Has any one have experience using the drilled and/or slotted rotors on there MJ, or any other vehicle. Its time for a brake job and was curious if its worth the double price of regular rotors. Thanks

Thanks for the quick answers. I thought the dodge ax15 would work, just wasn't positive. I'm going to keep looking for the complete 2wd jeep setup though (trans w/ bell housing) and hope to find a external slave cyl. It's time for a new clutch, so I thought I would gather up the ax15 parts before the clutch job. Thanks again!

Hello, have a question on AX15's. Are there other ax15 trans that will work on the jeep Comanche. Mine specific is a 1988 2wd 4L that I want to keep 2wd but install a stronger trans and later install a 8.8 rear. Are there more to look at other than jeeps that have ax15 trans. Will the dodge Dakota work with the correct jeep bell housing? Just trying to get info before I head off to the salvage yards.

Hello. I've had my 2wd 88 Comanche for a few years. I have been searching for a 4wd Cherokee for donor parts to convert mine to a 4wd. I have a Cherokee located which I can use the T/C?. This Cherokee is an auto, but will using a ax15 manual.. Will the T/C fit between the two (auto to the ax15) transmissions. If not I continue my search for a donor with a manual trans. Thanks

Hello: Going to paint my MJ next spring OEM color. Is there a source of oem stripe patterns on the aftermarket. I have a 88, oem color is a baltic blue with some gold stripes running the length of the body. Would like to make it look orig but not absolutely necessary. Thanks
-
As i go through the process of repainting and restoring my '88' MJ is there a good quality outside replacement mirror set. i googled information on a couple of the more common brands on the market and quality seemed to be very poor. Any recommended oem style that you guys really like or prefer. Thanks

4x4 coversion '89' or '99'??
tarmac2dirt replied to tarmac2dirt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the feedback, I have lost out on getting the 89 this week, Its sold. Your answers gave me a more definite thought to what I will be looking for. Some where around a 88-90 XJ. I am also looking at a J4000 if I can't get my Comanche converted to a 4x4. You guys know your Comanche's. Ive never had a 4wd truck before just 2wd and hot street cars. Thanks for giving me some guidelines. -
Hello once again. I am in need of CC member input on which year Cherokee to buy. I am looking at two models 89 and a 99 to covert my 88 Comanche to a 4x4 . Will be switching to a AW4 trans and doing away with the 5 speed . Both Cherokees are available for the same $. I am leaning more to the 89 because I think the renix set up will be easier to swap. Is there a big advantage to the 99 model or be a real pain for swapping 4x4 parts. Thanks guys
