  3. Thinking of doing a cheapo lift. I have a new set of front springs from a grand cherokee V8 MY1998. I will swap out the front springs with these. In the rear i'm thinking of using 2" blocks under the springs. The shocks i'll buy from Rancho.My truck is 2WD,but I miss my Cherokee, not that i'll go offroading with it. Has anyone tried this set-up? What are your thoughts on this.

  5. I hope this post will not go on too long, here goes.1987 4.0 5-speed 185,000mi on clock still orig engine. Broke down 2mos. ago found the dist gear broken,replaced re set dist. by placing at TDC moved oil pump to 11:00 pos. as per how to reset timing once engine turned.Popped in and pointed to #1. Start engine idles,But stumbles and spits thru pipe @2000rpm.Replaced evry known sensor on truck! evn new injectors.No plugged cat. Still no resolution.At my wits end,but not giving up.
  6. Jeep 1987 4.0l manual trans.A bout a month ago my jeep quit. I thought it was a timing chain but when I took the cap off and cranked the engine noticed the rotor was'nt turning.So I pull out the distributor and the gear was missing teeth, so I replace the gear reset the distributor and started the engine. It seems to stumble at 2,000 rpm and will backfire thru the pipe. So i begin to replace parts, I buy stator(CPS),rotor,cap,plugs,wires,icu,put in some fuel treatment.Still has the problem.I then get map,cps,tps,gas filter.Will run but still has the problem.Icheck injectors by pulling the connector one at a time while engine running,but do not notice any change.A mechanic says to rev the engine and to check the injectors so i will try that again. When it quit i tried cranking the engine at least four times,would cranking the engine somehow bugger my valves?(hope not). I'm at my wits end and my wallet is empty. I guess i'll have to take it to a real mechanic,but one that has knowledge of jeeps is hard to come by in these parts.I will be thankful of any tips anyone has out ther outside of telling me to get rid of it LOL
  7. I have an 87 MJ 4.0 amnual trans 2WD. It's been having an exhaust leak, but lately the leak is getting worse. Anyways, finally got around to buying the gasket. Did the R&R and when I was tightening the nut onto the stud at the back of the engine, THE BUGGER BROKE! I says great now what. Has anyone gone through this? I'm thinking either pull the head off as there looks to be a clearence issue with the firewall and my drill. Or taking off the cross member and motor mounts and with two floor jacks move the engine/trans together just until I get the space needed to repair the broken stud.
  8. The comanche has been in my family since new. My uncle had it then he gave it to my dad and my dad gave it to me.I also have an 84 Cherokee which I off road with, the comanche carries my bikes or my boys use it when they go dirtbikin. IT'S A JEEP THING that most people don't understand.
  9. Yes well awreet then! Great news I will run the test to see if it's the tps. I'm what you call a shotgun mechanic. And outside of the tps and the idle air control valve i've just about replaced everything. I even have the fuel pump on standby. Oh, and my bad yes it's a 4.0 Thanks! good looking out.
  10. Yes, that's what I was thinking too. The only thing is this sensor is getting hard to find. I need to backprobe the TPS, but my cheapo voltmeter isn't cutting it. Thanks
  11. Hello, I have a 1987 Comanche 5-speed manual, 2WD with 250,000mi. Was running good till a month ago. I have this problem where at 2,000rpm the engine sputters and will backfire thru the pipe.I have replaced the following ICM,PLUGS ROTOR,Cap,Wires,Map sensor,O2 sens,CPS and so far one injector. No Luck still has the problem, here's the thing tho if I just roll the throttle easy and shift before 2K I can get past it.When shifting thru the gears and when in third I'll go WOT and there is no problem only when it reaches 2k under load.AT idle giving it gas and the problem is still there. Sorry, rather long post, but can anyone suggest or has had this problem?
