  1. So, a while back I had purchased a 1986 Jeep Comanche 4X4 and was getting work on it so it could be my Desert Comanche. Unfortunately after just getting road ready (I had just paid for registration tags), I young driver hit me on the side and my Comanche was considered totaled. However, this past Father's Day I was able to buy a replacement. It's a 1987 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4X4, Automatic, with a 6 Cylinder motor. I am super happy and feel extremely blessed as it seems to be close to all original (so I think - I just got into this Comanche life journey in January). I was actually able to drive it 520 miles to where it calls it's new home now - without any hick-ups. Anyways, I'm going to add some pictures of it here and please feel free to let me know what I have as I want to make the right choices as I begin to work on it - although, I'm thinking of doing very little to it.
  2. I have a question for all you Comanche faithful. I’m going to Line-X my bed for my 1987 Jeep Comanche and I’m also thinking of getting my original Sports Bar Line-X. Should I Line-X my original Sports Bar or should I just get it painted?
  3. I'm replacing my side mirrors on my 1986 Comanche. But I do not know the size of the screws. Does anyone know the size of the three torx screws (Top Left #8 and #10)?
  4. Thanks to all of you for this info. I'm gonna have to look into those plugs.
  5. Hey guys, I noticed a coolant leak (a lot) coming from the bottom of the transmission. Any ideas what it might be? I attached some pictures.
  6. Thank you all for the info. As stated, I'm new to this and looking for as much information as possible. Anyone is welcome to give their 2 cents. Thanks again.
  7. Hello Community, I'm getting close to doing my 2nd phase job on my 1986 Jeep Comanche Custom 4x4. I'm looking to get a 3.5-4.5 Lift Kit, preferably with new leaf springs in the rear. Can you recommend a lift kit that would include everything I need. This is my first Comanche and I'm a bit clueless. I'm looking to install 31" tires and take my Comanche off-roading on some trails. Maybe even low level rock climbing. Any information is appreciated.
  8. Thank you all for those pictures. This really gives me a visualization of what I'm looking for. Budget wise, I'm looking at around $3K.
  9. So, I'm thinking of lifting my 86 Jeep Comanche that I just purchased. I am thinking of doing a 3.5" Lift kit with 31" Tires. Does anyone have pictures of any Jeep Comanche with this set up they could share so I can see how it looks? My other option is just keeping it stock.
  10. Thanks for the advise. I've decided to keep it a 2.5L. Now my issue is finding a good interior for it. lol
  11. Thanks for the recommendations. I think I'm keeping it stock. I just found a place about an hour away who can do the work it needs to get the engine and engine bay where I want it.
  12. Hello everyone, Just purchase a 1986 Jeep Comanche 4x4 2.5L 4 Speed Manuel (the truck I have is #44,524 out of 45,219). My goal is to get it running again but I don't know if I want to keep it in its stock configuration or swap a 4.0 6 cylinder. I was just informed that there is leakage of water between the head and block. I know I will have to replace belts, hoses, vacuum lines, etc. It was sitting for about 3 years with the last owner. Don't know much more about it other than it was last registered in 2015. I have limited funds (about $6,000) and it needs a lot of work. I will probably have to tackle it little at a time (1. Engine bay, 2. Axles/transfer case?, 3. Suspension, etc.). My question to anyone who has knowledge working on a 1986 Jeep Comanche, what can you tell me in terms of the best way to tackle this project? Should I keep it in stock configuration or swap for a larger engine? If I do swap, what's the best yet easiest swap (I'm not a mechanic so the difficult work will be done by a mechanic)? Anyways, just new to the forum and trying to brainstorm with the community.
