Hello All,
I am needing to buy an alternator for the MJ. I like shopping on RockAuto as I have choices in the parts I am buying. My truck came with a 61amp unit as per the sales info I found. RockAuto offers a PureEnergy 61amp new for $50 bucks without core or I could get a higher amp unit new. I don't know anything about the PureEnergy brand but I like that its new. Sounds really cheap that has me worried. Given the alternator is mount down low this is not something I am wanting to change often so I am willing to pay more for something that will last. I like the Remy or AC Delco brands but they only offer 105 and 100 amp options new. I am not sure about going to a higher amp output and the pitfalls that might carry. Anyone done this and able to keep stuff stock? And without doing mods?
There are remanufactured Remy's at 61amps but that is the cost of a new one. I am not big on remanufactured as I know they don't last the same as new. I was a tech at a Ford dealer 25 years ago for a short while and I remember seeing Ford remanufactured alternators out of the box not working by the dozen. It was a real joke. The ones that did work failed within 24 months. We had a lot of come backs on those.
Let me know what you guys have done. Thanks
I am just doing stock build. I used walker exhaust parts and replaced from the y-pipe to the tail pipe. Not done until I get the tail pipe hanger and correct bolts for the cat. I might have to rig something until I can find a oem tail pipe hanger or have one fab. I went with a cat before knowing that my truck had the resonator. I figured that out after finding a download of the parts catalog online this week. I ran the truck in place with the setup and was running fine. It's light years ahead as the prior owner had the wrong muffler piped in and everything was being help up with baling wire. It did not even have a tail pipe. It was loud and not producing any real back pressure.
Need to, not yet. I am just getting parts and info at this point. I did do the exhaust but not anywhere near done. Will get started on that build thread soon.
If anyone parting out a truck and has this part please PM me. I would post in the wanted section but I still don't have enough postings.
Thanks,
Nathan
Hello All,
I have a 1988 2WD 4.0 long bed. Last weekend I changed out the exhaust replacing with stock parts by Walker. The tail pipe at about mid section has two metal rods that attach to the rubber hanger that is attached to the body with another metal rod (x2). My problem is on my truck the metal rods that attach to the truck body are missing. I found a photo of the same exact truck that is in stock condition and best I can tell is the rods are attached to a plate that might be bolted to the body. I am not seeing any broken welds on the body so I am guessing they are bolted. Does anyone know the part number for this hanger? Where to find one? Anyone have a better picture so I can have something more to go off when looking for a replacement?
Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
Hello All,
