Thats the best case scenario for sure. a long block and the parts would be extremely time and money consuming, So I'm thinking baby the 2.5 and start up a savings account for the 4.0 (As my wallet is exceedingly flat these days) This reminds me of last year around this time a guy had a 2.5 and an ax-5 together for $250 I thought I could talk him down to $200 and ended up insulting him.

So I dropped my oil pan and found this chunk sitting in the bottom with some metal shavings. responses on my project page say it's a piston skirt, I've looked online and no one has any how to's I'm thinking with my limited experience wrenching I'm not going to tackle this head on. (without a tonne of research) Have any of you guys taken apart a 4 banger for similiar reasons, and am I kidding myself with this seemingly complex job?
-
Yeah it's a pretty bad knock too, it was quieted a little when I changed the oil, but not by much.
-
So I absent-mindedly turned on the acc while a wire was loose and blew a 5 amp fuse........damn now it won't start.... and thats the only fuse i don't have sitting in my ashtray, well i guess it's a fuse tray but whatever. Anyway I'll do the video tomorrow, but first here's the chunk that was sitting in my oil pan.

Yeah it definitely sounds different when I let the clutch out, like a whirring noise but the idle speed doesn't change. I think I'll make a quick video of the engine idling and post it.

:fs1: :fs1: :fs1: :fs1: :fs1: WOW I found a hefty chunk of metal in my oil pan. :fs2: and some sort or clip and shavings.......Waaaaah! :???: I'm surprised the dang thing still runs. I looked under when the oil pan was removed and in between cylinders 1 and 2 I could see where the chunk was torn out. (I know, I don't know any technical engine words so that will have to do) I'm gonna take some pictures and post them here and the tech forum to get an idea of what I'm replacing, OR If I should just run it into the ground and buy a I6 like everyone else on this damned four banger hatin island.

although I could be wrong, I'm always learning.

Yeah I've read that trick before, but I think the carrier break makes this axle pretty much useless because it won't match my 4.11 d35

I have bought my oil pan gasket kit and installed the brake cable. must have been a dud because the first time I go to use it POP! the end that clips into the brake pedal slid up! FUNK! So I called up lordco and they re-ordered it saying raybestos usually never fails like that. at least they didn't charge me anything. Also doing a lot of searches on dropping the oil pan and taking out the oil pump, I've never done it before so I feel I've gotta learn more than whats sitting in the haynes manual. :typing:

OK so I have the brake cable and I'm putting it in today. also bought some replacement gaskets for my rocker cover and oil pan.

So I took the Comanche, filled up the bed with yard trimmings and parked on a hill. stomped on the parking brake and "SNAP!" the front cable breaks.... great! I've wanted to replace that cable for a long time and now I HAVE to. They didn't have it at Lordco in Duncan, So I ordered it in for tomorrow. I also got off my @$$ and bought a new rear pinion seal for the dirty five. VERY VERY easy job to do. I think the guy who installed the seal before used the wrong sealant on the outside edge, causing the leak. and the older seal looked smaller and didnt have the inside rubber seal making me think it was the wrong part.

also the gears inside look like they are in great shape!

Damn! I picked up the axle and it has a 3.07 gear ratio I'm gonna start looking around for a new set of gears and search up how to put it all together. I also took off the brake calipers and opened up the CAD thing. It's still intact and functional just needs hoses.

so... it's been a while since I've done anything to the truck, I went to the junkyard after reading madxj's write up about the door seals, picked up two new(er) seals off a 99 xj. now when I close my doors it actually sounds like a bassy thump instead of a slam. Also on Island4x4.com theres a Dana 30 for free! I called the guy so I can pick it up today and he says it was out of a four banger, (fingers crossed on the right ratio!)

I got the business cards, magnet and Canadian flag comanche sticker in the mail today! Thank you Peter! I'll be getting my donation out to you in a few short days hopefully. Now I've gotta figure out where to put these guys..

So I didnt want to take the axle cover off to read the numbers for the gear ratio, So I sat under the truck and scrubbed the axle tube and found the BOM. Went on the website and it says I have 4.11 gear ratio. good to know. http://www2.dana.com/expertforms/deabill.aspx My number was 605324-7 E the axle was listed under XJ pickup

Yeah I'm looking forward to flushing that crap out. I've never changed it since when I bought the truck the guy told me that he replaced the brakes, I assumed that meant the fluid too! this thread should be getting a lot more interesting as I'm starting work beginning next week. And that means more dollars to drop on the Manche!
-
I noticed the brake pedal was feeling kinda spongy when I pushed it down all the way. so I got under the truck and had a look at the bleeder screws, they were covered in dirt and rust. after about twenty minutes I had the rust and dirt scrubbed off and all the screws were moving in and out nicely. So I then bled all the brakes and now I barely have to put the weight of my foot on the pedal to stop the vehicle  BUT the fluid in the reservoir had gone black! like almost tar black. but when I was bleeding the fluid coming out of the lines was clear? So i'm kinda scared that the brakes are going to fail me.... I'm going to start looking for replacement parts asap.

So I found a patriotic way to cover up most of that big gash in the fabric of my sun visor. iron on madness!!!

Canadian's Comanche, let see your truck and location !!

Hey I'm on vancouver island, sometimes it seems like I'm the only comanche owner here! my best friend got me to buy a 2x4 as he had the metric ton package in his and loved to help. he then went insane and we're no longer friends. at least I got the JEEP! -
It's only one  I rolled the sides a little thinner so I could keep it thick on the bed. I'm planning on spraying another coat and then looking into a uv protectant.
