also the idea is to possibly swap a more recent v8 that is more efficient since engines have come a long way in 23 years. i love my mj its just i want it to really scoot while still being my dd and still a capable hauler.
-
sorry, i have an 88 4.0L 5 speed commanche, i lack any true in depth experience with engines, however, i have a friend who has swapped out a number of engines before. for price i would say anything under $1500.

what engine or engines can cheaply and easily swap into an mj and make it faster while keeping a near normal gas mileage? (17 mpg)

My question is this on the standard shortbed 4.0 L 5 speed non-metric ton mj, what is the towing capacity, and payload?

with my new 1988 4.0 L renix 5 speed i just got about a month ago i have a pretty good exhaust leak... the fumes enter my cab so i have to keep the windows open at all times. i have not had the time to find the leak but if it is bad enough where should i go to find replacement parts for the exhaust?

well its a 4.0L Renix that has a 5 speed and it is an 88.

just out of curiosity what performance upgrades are there for an mj?

ok so i recently just bought my mj for 500 bucks, and i was planning on painting it. I really like the color it is SUPPOSED to be, but years of sunlight and other elements have faded the paint and there is some surface rust developing... I was curious to ask this question since i want to be as cheap as possible i was curoius if you would say spray painting the truck would be a good idea? I would like to match the original color as much as possible wich is a dark blue would you think this to be a good idea or would i regret it? i already painted the stock wheels black and they look pretty sharp, but there are some runs... overall however, pretty nice. also should i paint under the bed liner? or can i leave it to save some dough for other jobs for my truck?

any idea who manufactures that roll bar and is a bolt in or weld set up?
-

I just recently bought an 88' comanche I love it thus far, but I have to use it as my dd to college everyday. I work all around town and haul an occasional load of rocks and mulch. so i know i will get plenty of use out of this puppy, but i do want to offroad it without having to go hardcore because I want to fix the rust and dents and currently i can not sink money into a conversion. I do however need new tires so i am open to suggestion. do you think i could still take it o/r i live about a half hour away from Haspin so i would really like to take advantage of it especially because my brother has a hardcore rock crawler this thing is pretty sweet. but i don't have the pocket for that... so any ideas tips and suggestions from the pros?

so would i see any true gains in power or mpg? or is it truely just a show piece? and if i dump the exhaust out by the rear wheel wells would i get any fumes?
-
I have an exhaust leak and a rusty exhaust at that... I was just wondering if anybody would think it would be a good idea if I added a flowmaster 40 series single inlet and outlet stock diameter, but also placed it where the catalytic converter is and lead the exhaust pipe out the side... does this sound like a good idea? would it help gain power and mpg or not? thanks.

well if a cold air is not the best option what is? i have the 4.0L , 5-speed, and 2 wd

Hello, I am in the process of building up my dd 88 comanche pioneer. I will have to travel a LOT of miles soon for college and i wanted to get a cold air intake kit for my comanche... do you know if a cold air for a cherokee of a similar year will fit?
