  1. in my old xj i tried that black peel and stick stuff from home depot I'm assuming its the same thing your talking about i believe its made for window and siding weather proofing, and then just bought a roll of carpet insulater for cars and put that in too. i was sound proofing cause we had just had our daughter and the exhaust was really loud and it got real hot inside too it worked for me hopefully this will help you
  2. ya i know i got it right even thought that maybe i had it wrong but double checked online and on my bros truck
  3. I'm pretty sure iv got the belt tight enough but ill double check i actually tighned the thing while it was running to see if i could find the sweet spot and it really didnt help not to sound like a tard but anyone got any pics of this so maybe i can try and compare i don't have a book i know i need one but i hate spending money lol my brothers jeep is sittin here he just threw a rod in it i think i might play swap the parts for a bit till i find the one lol :rotf: i might just tell him oh maybe the rod made your truck squeel
  4. ok so iv had this squeal going on for a couple weeks now. every time i think iv got it it comes back :wall: so here's what i got and here's what iv done: its a 87 4.0 i6 2x4 trans(not a clue just got the truck in march) so when i start it it just starts squealing like a stuck pig. iv replacced the idle pulley the water pump and gone through 2 belts and a couple cans of penetrating oil(been spraying on the pulleys)so i thought i figured it out the other day when i pulled the fan and pulley and found that the pulley was cutting into the timing cover i figure someone forgot some washers to hold it away from the cover so a few washers and bolted it back up it no longer shreds belts but the damn squeal is still there!!! :dunno: i drove it the other day to see if the squeal would work its way out got the motor up to running temp then it slowly started going away (probably about 15 min of driving) and then it suddenly went away but when i really got down on the gas it came back :headpop: I'm wondering if the crankshaft pulley has a bearing behind it? or if any one else has had this problem and how to fix it or even help to diagnose where the problem is really coming from I'm tired of buying parts that i think are bad and then being wrong and really don't want to throw any more money at the wrong thing
  5. well I'm thinkin it might be that pulley next to the ac pump? maybe its called a idler pulley i don't know i don't have a book. but i don't seem to have an issue with power steering/ over heating/ or voltage droping when it happens so I'm thinkin that. plus i figure its gotta be the cheaper one to fix lol
  6. well ill paint and prep the truck my self iv got tools for it and i can practice painting my brothers heep before turning the gun on mine i just don't know what brand of paint to use how many coats, clear coat, primer, all that junk. andi think i will look into the scrap metal option too i needto pull the carpet and see exactly how rotted it is
  7. so i just got my comanche last month and have been fixing things as i find them. yesterday i was replacing the muffler when i noticed my floorpans were rotted :wall: so now i need to replace them i saw a diy for an xj and I'm fairly certain i can do the job. but i need some info good companys to order from? what have you used? were you happy with them? second I'm noticing more little bubbles in the paint and when i mess with them I'm finding rust so I'm thinkin its time for a paint job too. so more info needed please: whats some good paint? i don't need no 5,000$ paint job but i would like it to look nice. in june I'm supposed to move to sacramento for school and i worrie the salt water out there will really do a number on it if i don't fix it now so any tips to get it done fast and clean please let me know. thanks mike
  8. nice definately give that a try. thespeedometer turns out that its broken behind the guages so need to get a new cable. so now iv had a god awfull squeal coming from the serpentine belt tightened it loosened it tried belt conditioner and tried bar soap(this old guy told me to try it said thats what they used). and it seems to be quiet when the motor is cold but then as it gets hot it gets worse all pulleys appear to look straight and all are moving. any ideas?
  9. no that wasnt my xj but i will get some pics up soon just gotta find them. and its a 2x4 and oh ya i love my wife she knew the cancer called jeep that i have and that it requires alot of my time and money when she met me! heck she was buying me tools and lift parts to win me over while we were dating lol!
  10. hi everyone new to the board and i spent yesterday learning tons of info about my new truck from other posts on here and with all the knowledge on here you should never need a mechanic. I'm not new to the 4.0 motors or jeeps i had an 89 xj i sold last year and actually wanted a comanche so bad i turned my xj into a cheromanche lol turned out ok but just not a comanche, so i sold it. i went 8 months without a jeep and then for my bday my wife bought me a comanche  she bought it from a police impound lot so unfortunately we know nothing about it. its an 87 comanche rear whl dr and as best i know has about 212xxx miles on it. when i got it nothing electrical worked apparently the moron previous owner didnt know how to wire aftermarket guages he had a nest of wires under the dash so i cut them all out one by one things started to work but now I'm stuck: the gas guage doesnt seem to work right(i think badfloat)? the speedometer doesnt work iv inspected the transmission but everything looks good and connected. next i guess would be to pull the dash unless you all know of anything else? also when the lights are on the right blinker stays on on the dash still functions normally but stays on? i think everything else is working cause some of the idiot lights will turn on when you start the jeep. i read about the ground wire next to the hood pop, does this soundlike the cause? when i stop i feel the brake pedal push back at me and the truck kinda jumps I'm thinkin calipers? and last now that i got everything running it seems to have a tick when i accelorate maybe lifter? i don't know. well sorry for the novel here and maybe ill have some tuff q's for you guys one day! :D thanks for reading and i appretiate any feed back i can get
