  1. That was a thought of mine too....got the new filter, just got to replace old one and see what it does...
  2. I've got an issue that I want to know if anybody is familiar with. Even after sitting a little while, my Comanche is very good about starting....its not very cold natured. Let it idle a few minutes, take off, and it runs great...but drive around town for awhile, and it loses its "uumph". :???: It will still go, but only has throttle response to a certain point. I can floor it and nothing changes....it won't maintain slight inclines, it just kinda wimps out. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.
  3. I like wranglers but have never owned one.....does anybody know if they come factory equipped with some sort of wiring harness for the lights that mount on the pillars (not the adjustable "cop spot light")? Or is that all an add on? Thanks.
  4. Do you mean the best option for everything, or just interior? And thanks for reply
  5. Sorry if there is a similar post out there that I didn't find....I have seen a few members' project write ups where they use a newer donor cherokee for a complete interior swap out on there comanche....if you're on of them..... What I would like to do is find a good donor XJ, one that I could use the interior, the engine, transmission, t-case, basically all the power and drivetrain and everything in the front seat. My question is, is there a good year model of a cherokee where I could get all that from just one jeep? If not, what are the best years for specific parts? And also, are there any other things I need to look for? Thanks for any tips or info.
  6. Alright...cool
  7. I want to know if anybody has had this problem and if so what they had to do to fix it: I can't hardly even touch the control stick on the steering column (the one for the blinkers and wipers) without the windshield wipers coming on. Sometimes they come on by themselves, and once they're on, they won't stop until I turn the truck off. At first I could use the mist option with no problem, but now it just does whatever it wants. :shake: All of this is a new issue, it worked just fine when I bought it......any ideas or suggestions would be awesome.
  8. In my opinion, "JEEP" doesn't mean what it used to. I'm not an expert or anything, but Jeeps aren't built for the same reasons anymore :shake: ....like a number of you have said. It has kinda sold out to please the masses. Pretty soon the grand cherokee will just be another minivan. It kinda looks like the Compass or Patriot to me. The last one that had any potential was the 2004 model, before IFS. The Liberty was the beginning of the end. Oh well, I guess we just have to get our hands on as many "real Jeeps" as possible while we still can.
  9. .....you have an envelope hidden in your house somewhere that is labeled "Jeep $" .....when weather or not you have money to blow, you can't seem to stay off of CL
  10. ...........You notice during a rain storm there is just as much rain inside your truck as outside :agree: A very sad truth.... :ack:
  11. I ordered in a Rusty's intake tube and was able to install it yesterday. Its a very simple setup...it uses the factory tube and just replaces the whole air box assembly with a bracket and K&N air filter. Probably took about 20 minutes, and it would have been less but I had to do a little "customizing" (see pics). the old junk the new stuff the custom work....i had to use a little factory part; drill two holes in the end of the filter so I could tap a small line
  12. Thanks!....this place and people help alot.  I've had a reply from somebody in Buda...just about 15 minutes away, somebody in San Antonio...about the same...and I found a classified ad in Hutto.
  13. Sooo....it turns out if you don't re-bolt your sway bar after installing a lift, you're likely to experience a knocking noise while driving. And I was all proud that I was able to do it myself...well at least nothing got messed up. :shake:
  14. Round 2 came early this morning in the form of a pipe wrench. The lug nut was off in like 20 seconds. :shake: Here's some pics of the carnage and finished product..... Mighta got a little carried away.... I know, I know Just for tire fit reference, this is what a 3" AAL lift looks like with 30 1/2" tall tires mounted on 16x7 wheels with 0 backspacing.
  15. Son of......AHHHHH. I actually managed to wait two full days before mounting my new wheels. I get three of them on and on the last one, the stupid p.o.s. keyed lug nut strips out on me. I can't get it off for nothin. :headpop: I hate to leave something like changing the wheels undone, especially new ones. I guess I gotta sacrifice a regular socket, and pound it over the keyed lug to get it off (and I have to buy one cause I don't already have one that big) :ack: And the day started off so good... I got to snoop around two pick-n-pulls and found three extra "turbine" wheels, and four center caps that fit on them, and a few other things. Oh well, I guess its Round 2 with the Mr. LugNut tomorrow. :thwak:
  16. I ran down to the parts shop and got a little thing of DupliColor Universal Black touch up paint and painted all the balancing weights on the outside of the rim...looks tons better. Not exactly a highly involved "upgrade", but it sure helped the look.
  17. Finally got my new wheels in and the tires on them!!! Cool, but then the dude tells me I should wait two days to put them on because the lube they used to get the tires on needs to dry...huh :dunno: :ack: What a tease, they're just sittin in the garage. Just look at em..... :( I'm gonna have to do something about all those freakin balancing weights messin up the face of those nice, shiny, black steelies. :shake: Geeez, was there no other way to get em right.
  18. I found a roll bar for sale online. The guy says its for a mini truck and that it is off of a 1985 toyota. Does anyone know if that would fit or be close to a "bolt on application"? I don't know the dimensions or anything. Thanks for any tips!
  19. I was one of the lucky ones with almost know rust in the floor pans...no repairs at all, just a little grinding, priming, and some bed liner. My approach was a little more function than form (not the prettiest looking), but there's no more rust and there shouldn't be for a while now. As you can see from the picture, I haven't quite addressed the console issue yet. My Comanche Club swag, thanks to Pete  Oh... and on a side note, I picked up a XJ/MJ grill at the local annual swap meet for $5. After walking around for 10 minutes I took a second look at it and realized it was a 10 slot grill. I thought it was pretty cool find.
  20. While I was addressing the possibly rusty floor issue, I found out that the little miniature console and the inner boot weren't exactly...complete. I thought I read somewhere on here that a TJ boot would work. :???: Looking for suggestions to fix the boot and console....thanks.
  21. Got to do a little work on my MJ today. Installed the new cigarette lighter...I think it really brought the interior together....... :D Nah I'm just kiddin', but I did get some stuff done. Made it to the all important step of "pulling the carpet back, and checking for rust". Pleasantly surprised...I would call the rust level "moderate surface rust", so easy fix. :clapping: The interior is out of the way and vacuumed up and ready for some grinding. I also discovered that this truck is already wired for an audio amplifer and has four new speakers. I just have to get an amp and hook up the extra pioneer head unit I already have and its good to go. I will have to do something about the interior shifter boot, or whats left of it. :shake: Here's a few pics of what I got done today....... disappearing interior boot hmmm??? passenger side floor board driver side floor board just waitin to be hooked to somethin new speaker peekin through the grill A few days ago, I took a fellow CC member's advice about refinishing taillights. I did a little more lazy method by not taking the the red lense piece off of the housing....it's still better than before though.
  22. Went out today to play in the rain at the local salvage yard. :clapping: Just got a few interior parts...window hand cranks, visor center clip, and a cigarette lighter. Not much, but I just wanted to fill in the "gaps". And hey, as long as you're playing with a Jeep, its gotta be at least a little fun.
  23. My 88' MJ has the manually adjusting door mirrors (I'm assuming just like every comanche). What I want to know is if any of them came with the little knob for adjusting them without rolling down the window and actually adjusting the glass. :shake: If not, is it a direct or simple swap from a donor XJ, and if so, do I need to look for a certain year? :hmm: Thanks!!!!
  24. It does have a "stiffer" ride  , but it is a completely empty truck (haven't "worked" the leaves). What I want to do is find an old steel double door tool box, cut in half, weld a new side, and then mount that to one side of the bed with a spare tire mount and tire attached to it. After that and some gear, I hope the extra weight will take a little of the "bounce" out of its ride. Having said all that, the ride is highly bareable when you consider the lift cost me only about $325 to get it to my doorstep (shipping and all). And as non-mechanically inclined as I am, the lift was simple enough for me to do without any serious difficulties.
  25. Alright...thanks to all!
