When the truck is in 4 low there is a loud whining noise but it's not as noticeable in 4 high. Also I am getting a pulsating deep growling vibration in 2wd at about 55mph on up and the faster I go the louder and faster the noise is. Truck is a 86 2.5 3-speed auto if that helps.

Found a 85 XJ 2.5 in the j/y today with a full gauge cluster on it with out a tach though. I couldnt tell if the 85 was carbureted or not because someone already removed it and was wondering if it being carbureted or TBI made a difference or not on the cluster swap.

Need help. I have a 87 MJ with 4.0 and auto transmission that I bought a couple months ago. The trans shifted fine with no problems untill I replaced the rear main seal on the motor. Finished up the seal early sunday and drove the truck around the rest of the day as usual with no problems. Went to go to work the next morning and the trans wouldn't shift out of second and had to use my other truck. Got home that evening and test drove it and it shifted fine. The next morning same problem and wouldn't shift. So far I have changed the fluid and filter (fluid was dark brown) and replaced a section of line that was mashed flat and I also looked to see if I accidently damaged any elect lines when I pulled the oilpan and found nothing. I don't know what else to do. The truck was unhooked from the battery for about two days when I replaced the seal so do you think it could have caused any computer problems?

Also check the plug were the wire harness for the lights plug into the main harness. That was where my short was and I had to go to the junkyard and get one off a XJ and I snaged the whole front grill assembly while I was at it.

I think rod knock. Motor sounds good until about a couple miles down the road then it starts knocking. It has 248,000 miles on it.

Hello I'm new to the forums. I have a 86 Mj with a 2.5 that needs a possible new engine. I was wondering if the intake and exhaust and everything else from my 86 will bolt up to a 84 2.5?
