  1. got it!!!! everything is good. used a hose through my ear to find the noise, was the bellhousing. took out all the bolts again, screwed them all in, one didnt sit right, drove the car, heard a drop slid the last bolt in and everything is in order. thanks guys
  2. I'll check as soon as possible, its very possible this could be the case, while trying to get the exhaust apart to get it over the skid plate i beat it with a rubber mallet then a hammer a couple times at the cat. converter. I'm in idiot, it didnt even work but i hope to god i don't have to drop the tranny again. thanks alot man. any other suggestions?
  3. Busy weeks at work have made my clutch repairs take way longer than should- but today I finished. but man oh man do I have a noise thats coming from the bellhousing that has me confused. I had to pop out the tranny to put in a slave cylinder, replaced the master 3 months ago and even put in a new hose, figured while i was down there to do the clutch and pressure plate too. everything was fine. Drove it out of the garage to get the see if it worked, everything seemed fine, only thing that wasnt connected was the exhaust to manifold. Connected the exhaust, put on the last skid plate and cleaned up- decided to take it for a drive but ------ It sounds like popcorn, its a loud @$$ metallic rattle that will not go away. Clutch feels fine, hell, better than it ever has. the rattle doesnt go away when the clutch is pressed or when its in 1-3rd gear (ill admit i turned around cause i didnt want the thing to explode) so i don't know how it goes in 4 or 5 any ideas? Ive been searching through the forums here and it seems that most people with this problem have a bad throw out bearing- but the sound goes away when the clutch is depressed-
  4. i tow welders and torches at work all the time but my fleet truck is out of commission and i'm already working on a hitch for the comanche. my question is, with my small pintle hook trailers, i never need a harness or break lights, but I'm gonna have to tow my weekend toys with the manche' aka boat etc and need the trailer harness and lights for the highway and through town. I know the harnesses can be had relatively cheap, but cannot find a good diy on how you guys have made one for the comanche, I know its not like the cherokee plug and play. any easy way to do this?

  6. U-haul stopped making the rear hitch the week I go to buy one!! I desperately need one for work because i always use a hook.
  7. I have the same problem in my 89' 4.0. starts good, rpm shoots then settles around 4-5 sometimes going up to 5-6 but the low idle always prevails. always starts, always strong.

  9. thanks for the quick replies. I didnt think so, but i gotta friend who "knows everything" and figured I'd ask. I'll look into the seal, I can't help but take any advice as to fix something when I'm already down there. And mac, the when i try to get off the bolt it is turning the crankshaft every now and then
  10. So, judging by my previous issues with the serpentine belt and electrictiy, I've decdided to do some preventative work. My alternator is a the doctors office getting a rebuild, so ill be good on that by wednesday. the funny thing about the alternator is it was only putting out 9volts max. is this a common problem? what causes this? anyone now and- I have my serpentine belt 1/4 inch off the fan pulley and seems the diagnosis is the harmonic balancer. After trying my hardest to inspect and pull on the thing, I can't really see much wrong with it. The only qualm i have is the rubber looks a bit dry rotted.... I was able to do some work this weekend and picked up a few extra bucks, drove to autozone and picked one up= a dorman (not, if its really worth the extra bucks for the pioneer Ill exchange it for it.... you guys would now, but judging on how its built i couldn't really see the difference) now my question is, will I run into some timing issues if i do this wrong? I was trying to remove the old one, which I'm sure i can do, but its definitely turning a little bit and so far i got a good 65 degree turn from its original location. any help is appreciated...
  11. Ok, so i crawled underneath and took a good look at the harmonic balancer. It looks fine, the rubber looks great, the belt not separating at it, nothing turning funny. the metal flush. I'm at a loss, the fan belt is the only belt that is out of place. I'm going to get a new belt tomorrow and see if the carquest belt from the previous owner installed is a pos. I did however disconnected the battery and the car died, only to start it up again to have no power..... looks like I'm pulling the alternator tomorrow too. any tips on the easiest way to get it out? or any suggestions as to why in the hell the alternator is so f......... low? arent jeeps meant to be ran off road?
  12. its a busy week at work, i'm not gonna be able get to it till the weekend. ill update the post by then. I'm thinking its the harmonic balancer....
  13. okay, upon further inspection, everything seemed to be checking out. I was able to give the belt adjustment through the adjustment bolt just fine, I'm as tight as should be, tight at 90 degrees. still some noise. checked all my pulleys. It seems the part of the belt on the fan pulley is 1/4 inch off. do i just loosen the entire belt, put it in place and tighten? does the fan pulley alone need to be aligned/tightened? Theres some slight fraying on the inside of the belt, but i should be able to diagnose and align with the belt- its not shot- yet. though i will say i will be getting one in a week. i just don't want to throw a new one one with a bad pulley.
  14. something round there is def sqealing. ill be playing with it tomorrow.
  15. Could a loose vbelt/ or also one that has a streaked sidewall be the culprit responsible for my a/c sucking (aka not exactly working, but works sometimes), power steering sticking and electrical battery charge not really existant?

Does a moderator have to approve of them before they are actually posted? when I preview the posted reply it only gives the url of the photos on my desktop. I took a 3 pictures and would like to post them= It does have a metric ton badge and the vin indicated it is a metric ton. Also, i'm located in eastern north carolina.

  22. I recently purchased a one owner, incredibly maintained comanche with the metric ton package. its a 1989 pioneer edition with the bigger tires, bigger rear axle, looks like its already lifted etc.... only thing thats got me is that it was made for export and its a shortbed? anybody have anything on this? i didn't think they made a metric ton short bed-
