  1. I must apologize for my absense, things are abit CrAzY... Theres been a steady river of orders coming in leaving little to no time to prototype. I've been down on help but now have atleast a new part timer to help out. Hopefully when things level out I'll be able to get these products jigged up and ready to role. If theres a SWB owner out there look'in for a rear bumper, I do have one here about ready to go, I was going to hold on to it, but its just in the way, drop me an email if you'd like more info. (info@Detoursusa.com) Hope to check back soon, Mark :USAflag:
  2. Typically, the 'L' plate gets worked in with the spare, the bumpers have thus far been built on a custom basis, so....I was able to work with the individuals as far as placement went. But....I see a possible hitch insert to retain your plate.......a bracket mount for behind the drivers head area......tailgate mount?
  3. Yes, thats how I place the 2" recievers in the bumpers for XJ/MJ and most other custom applications. As far as a 'true rating', you can only get that by supplying your parts to an independent lab, have them destroy parts, then supply rating...... not going to happen... I will say, just like I tell the XJ crowd....small trailer, 2 ATV's, small boat, small landscaping trailer...small 'newer' pop-up camper.....should all be fine, and they have been to this day to the best of my knowledge. :USAflag:
  4. Its my best guess by 'lower rear' your refering to this area... That area will be part of the bumper.......an independent pcs, armor by itself would look abit 'assey' due to the wrap around fade away contour which falls behind the bumper......Maybe theres away to pull off a good looking pcs, have to wait & see. This area cleans up pretty good with alil armor... Cab corners a pretty tough, but we'll see what happens... :chillin:
  5. Not sure if Matt posted any pics of his rig here, since it left my shop......but this is a good shot of the SWB slyders we offer along with our rear bumper we'll be offering, it'll come with the lower rocker protection..... Working on LWB..... :brows:
  6. No problem......I have a couple custom commitments to get thru....then I'll be able to jump on it.. :D But....I did get to clean out the remnents of whatever was living in it, the hornets are now all moved out......it's in the shop, rear bumper's been removed & I have started on the massaging.......I now see why the upper wheelwells rot out............Slyders are going to be L O N G .... :chillin:
  7. Yup....Thanks to Eagle's MJ Recovery Yard....we have a doner, thankyou Eagle! (Not going to believe this, as I left the shop....one was put up for sale right down the road, LWB, I'll be looking at THAT one Monday as well) As mentioned, going to need a lil massaging on the sheet metal for the bumper area, remove what ever was living in it  , but other than that....looks good.
  8. Trust me, I was'nt braggin.....just lettin you know we all don't worry about Mall door dings. :chillin:
  9. Ahhh, chicks dig dents...... :D My last outting cost me 3 door dents/1 quarter panel/front drive shaft/rear U joint & straps/ track bar....... , we all don't treat our XJ's kindly. ;) :USAflag: Oh, just got word everything is set for Saturday, if the truck is square enough........we'll soon be fabb'in. 8)
  10. Detours fab's most everything to order, parts/pcs to create an assembly are in stock & ready to go.......but fabbing the actual product is done on a per order basis. If......you were to call & order telling me you'd like the sylder to stick out an extra inch or so.....its typically not a problem, I've done this for the XJ crowd in the past. :D
  11. Steel prices have almost doubled in the last 1.5 year... Along with.....electric bills, heating oil, welding wire, insurance.........its to be expected..
  12. Good one.. You'd be looking for Grade B- 2.5x2.5 box tube with a 3/16" wall. :chillin: :USAflag:
  13. I read somewhere Ridgco is'nt accepting new orders till June or July, but then again....this IS the internet, might want to check yourself. ;)
  14. Hehee........Eagle reads the same books I do.... :D Drahcir495, thankyou for the welcome.....being new to the nieghborhood, you never know what to expect....... :brows: Now lets talk about resulphurized carbon steels heat chemical ranges and limits as applied to Hitch Steel, from there...we'll compare its properties to chromium-molybdenum steels.......... :USAflag:
  15. Thanks for the back-up......figured I'd get back here & find a bashing. I'll give them an '8.5' for creative writing. :D I can't yet comment on mounting on LWB, I can say our SWB set up is doing very well.....mounting & all........but thankyou pingpong for the dimension offer. Possibly scoring LWB this weekend, everythings in place.....just need to make the plan come together. :USAflag:
  16. Read again.............this thread concerns LWB, not 'short box'.... I should find out who does their writing, very creative.......if I asked my national wholesale steel supplier to supply me with 'hitch steel'....they'ed most likely laugh me off the phone & never accept my calls again. Its common grade b box tube, the claimed radious is a result of the wall thickness......thicker the wall, greater the radious. Not knock'in, just a chuckle over the creativity...... :chillin: :USAflag:
  17. petermontie, there is absolutly no way the bumper I fab can be built off simple dimensions........I was asking for the dimensions to cross referance SWB areas to LWB areas.....thats all. :D May have a LWB in the works, if so...within a short period of time, I should be able to offer up you LWB guys some goodies!! :chillin: :USAflag:
  18. Not having one to toy with, I can only go by the info I've been offered by their owners.....last thing I want to do is offer something that dosent meet the owners expectations...... :? I appriciate this source of info....maybe someone with a tape would like to offer assistance on the rear bumper issue... 1: Lower rear rocker area....measuring the straight crease which sticks out furthest in this area.......SWB measures 21.5" from flare to the very rear of the truck........LWB the same? 2:Very most rear of the MJ's frame, bottom area which protrudes.....the measurement from there to square under/off the tailgate..SWB = 5 1/8" What else?? Is the difference between the 2 found only between the wheelbase?? Thanks for any help on this in advance!
  19. Hey Guy's.........Bic, thanks for the link.....Hello Eagle, never knew this place was out there....... My name is Mark aka Detour, looks like I've been e-mailing a few here concerning some parts, I'm sorry I was'nt readilly available to help you out but maybe in the near future we can change this.. :D Eagle......feel like selling one of those non running LWB MJ's? Rails can be jigged after development, thats not a huge issue......Bumpers or atleast the ones I fabricate are developed directly on the vehical its self, I use the same format for XJ bumpers and have yet to get a return or mis-fit issue (I literally keep a rear section of an XJ here in the shop). A skin tight bumper such as the one I like to produce is virtually impossible to create a jig for, thus....I'll seek a donor to become the jig. Currently, I have a SWB MJ inside the shop receiving the rear bumper like Bic's......I know this dosent help you LWB folks out there, but you should know I do look forward to being able to supply you with Slyders & a rear bumper system in the near future... Eagle......sent you a pm. :P
