  2. Thanks onlyinajeep726 just confermed by looking ar your pics miine is an early 86 . Looks like some massageing is in order
  3. Yeah it does seem like its going to be a whole lota work. In 1989 I bought a 86 mj 4x4 it had the 2.8 with auto trans I lifed it 4 inchs and ran 31 10.5 15 mudders and it wouldnt hardly get out of its own way and gas millage was horrid I loved that truck tho was in a horrific accident where a guy ran a stop sigh and I t boned going about 45 shoved bumper and everything back around the frame horns but drove it home it was quite unreal anyway I was never happy with that motor combo and have had a number of cherokees since and the 4.0 speaks for itself. I'm building this truck for my son he is now 13 so guess we better get started and would like the reliabilty of the 4.0
  4. Hello all was hopeing to gain some insite for an upcoming project I have researched the forum and read as much as I can find on the topic but thought there might be a few tips or tricks or things to look out for. So I have an 86 comanche lwb 4x4 2.8 5speed motor is locked up . I also have a 93 cherokee 4.0 auto 4x4 ho. Have decided to do compleate swap. Engine trans interior the hole 9 yrds. I'm aware of the firewall issue and figure on cuting what ii need from the 93 as well as core support hood exc. Guess my biggest concern is wireing and dash anf all that goes into that. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Starting on floor boards this week front clip motor and tranny removed. Hopeing to have in primer and running by spring. Thanks so much for the forum anf the info.
  5. I'll try to get some pics it has been raining/snow hard the last couple of days so I haven't been out there. The holes in question are inside the plentum when I took the carb off and looked inside the plentum is where I see them from the pasenger side of the RV The pipe taped hole is on the pasenger side and the other little hole is on the drivers side inside the plentum It is a stock castiron intake 2BBL I just haven't messed with alot of Mopars They look like they have never been pluged.. Is this maybe the inlets to what they call a dual plentum? I'm not sure but I would think gas and air would get into the motor case if it were a clean though hole it must be tied into the induction system somehow?? Also does anyone know if the 360 dodge motor uses a vally pan gasket? Thanks Bill..
  6. Hi fellas I was wondering if there were mopar guys here. progress has been good on the mj but now into another project. picked up a really nice dodge motorhome cheap the carb is all gummed up so I removed it for cleaning and when I look down into the intake there looks like about a 1inch pipe tap threaded hole. is this normal in the 360 2bbl doge intakes or should there be a plug in it? also another aprox 1/2 inch regular drilled hole on the other side of the manifold not sure its taped or not. I'm hopeing there isn't supposed to be a plug in there cause then I'll have to find the plug :fs1: anyway hope someone can shed some light Thanks
  7. Hey fellas I have an 86 mj with the 2.8 some may remember I was kickin around options on replaceing the 2.8 with something else. Well I found a gm 2.8 crate motor with 20K miles on it for 200 bucks so I decided to go that route. Now my next question is on induction. have any here used one of the weber carb conversions seen on ebay and else where. I also have pondered putting an eldebroke intake with a holey 390 4bbl carb any here done that? I will be stripeing the vacume lines and all that garbage off the motor as by the time I have it running it will be echeck exsempt :headpop: so I thought of rebuilding the original carb but it looks a bit crapy and problematic. Any thoughts Thanks Fellas
  8. So I found a 3.4 in a 94 camaro. It has a auto tranny will this pose any problems being I have a 5 speed? I think I will also go with an edelbrock intake with a holly carb just to avoid all the electric/computer issues. Any thoughts or warnings out there? Thanks..
  9. Thanks guys good info. I belive it must be the factory option by Wildmans acount it seems to be. I do have a bit of damage on the front of the frame rails ( lack of a better word concearning the unibody ) but no tears or major crumpiling just a slight bending downward . I did frame repair and bodywork the first several years out of school and seen far far woarce caused by deer . Thanks again Bill..
  10. Thanks guys makes this set up a lot more usefull then I thought It might be. Wish I still had the wifes ole 99 cheroke now sure would beat the tractor :fs1: Bill..
  11. Hi I recently bought a 86 Mj It has a Meyers snow plow that looks like it was built just for the comanche No chessy universal brackets exc. The brack bolts in place along the sides of the frame and is noched out around the sway bar the factory bumper is also bolted to it all the notchs are factory cut and holes drilled no crappy torch work. What I was wondering is if this plow would fit other models of Jeep or just the comanche? I have heard something to the effect of that the comanche and the cheroke were the same from the firewall up If so for what period/model years? I was thinking of haghing onto the plow if it would fit other jeeps But have no plans of pushing snow with this one. Thanks for any info.. Bill...
  12. Thanks I'm in North East Ohio Portage co. Less then a hour drive to the salt mines :fs1: here's my truck just got home after 6 hr drive pead and snapped the picture before the sun set. Shes going in the garage tomorrow better pics soon..
  13. Yeah got her off ebay about 2 weeks ago drove about 320 miles for it and was pleasently surprized when I got there. The truck is unbeliveable underneith the plow has hit something solid and bent the front of the unibody a bit but did not disturd the sway bar or anything and like I said befor the motor is locked tight. It had sit on a shelf Yeah a shelf in a big auction house for about 10 yrs some sort of estate thing I guess. I do have some surfase rust under the rubber matt but no holes. plan on compleatly guting interior and blasting everything and go from there. Looking forward to this build Bill..
  14. Thanks Guys wouldn't a 4th gen engine be a FRW there by have the starter, oil filter and everything else in the wrong places? I also think the motor mounts would be completely different as the Front Wheel Drives don't use mounts on the sides of the motors but rather on the front and back with the big dog bone support up in front?
  15. Thanks good to know I look forward to hearing how/if guys have gotten around that. I may just have to rebuild the 2.8 then but at the very least will stroke it. Bill..
  16. Hi all was hoping to get some thoughts on what it would take to swap a 4.0L in the place of an 2.8L GM v6. Of course I realize the tranny and all will have to go. I have a 86 mj 2.8 5 speed 4x4 locked motor. Not having much luck finding a good used 3.1/3.4 everything is worn out So the question is If I were to get a donor cherokee with a 4.0 auto. What kind of headaches might one expect with wiring exc. Any one done something all these lines?? I guess I figure that if I'm going to spend the money to total rebuild and engine it my as well have more power then the 2.8 had one in a mj a long time ago with an auto trans what a dog Thanks for your thoughts Bill.. NE Ohio :typing:
  17. Hey all new to this forum Great site!! Quick Question. I just got ahold of a 86 off of ebay drove over 300 miles to trailer it back home. Sounds crazy right? I hoped to find some on here that might not think so just to get my wife off my case. Any way it has a locked up 2.8 chevy motor in it. wondering what some of you might of done in the past seeing how it's a rare breed and not alot of engine swoping options. I bought this truck as a progect for my Son and I to start on (He is 10) so maybe I'll have it done in time. any way looking for a running 2.8 for now as I'm thinking of puting a stroker 3.4 togeather for it. This truck is unreal it has never been painted all origanal No rust just some dents and the locked up motor. This truck set in a warehouse for over 10 yrs. I'm pumped Its not my first comanche had an 86 2.8 auto (PIG) 4" rancho lift 31 10.5 loved the truck sold it 18yrs ago to get the down payment on our house. So now it's time to play again.. Hope to get some pics soon Thanks Bill.. NE Ohio Salt capitol of the world 86 comanche orig. stock!!
