  1. thanks! :) was just a thought. i will keep 8.25 until after i finish everything else and then will think about it again.
  2. G2 has custom D60 for TJ, which should be the same width as stock
  3. Is there any way to save the steering column shifter when swapping an interior, including the steering column itself into MJ? IF I leave the stock steering column, will a new steering wheel fit on it? I really like those and could use the space for OX lockers manual shifter on the floor. Gear position indicator is not the problem, there are aftermarket solutions available.
  4. Just back to the topic, will Dana 60 be a worthy upgrade over 8.25? Looks like a nice and beefy axle, but then I just plan to run 33s.
  5. oh wow! whole discussion went sideways haha I am ABS supporter, I've been in rally for 6 years and all vehicles equipped with ABS showed better results and crashed less often, it also does not decrease braking distance, that's just a myth as ABS will not engage before wheels are locked, so applying pressure on the edge of locking the wheels have exactly the same performance with or without the ABS, but once you lock them... [Traction control is another topic, US vehicles with TC are total crap, but now I drive BMW and love how it works!]
  6. 1. Are engine blocks all the same through 84-01? My MJ got half of the mileage, so I wanted to use that block with 99 XJ perks. 2. Will M90 supercharger be able to give any decent boost with 4.7 stroker kit? Boosted tech. claims 7 psi boost with the smallest pulley, but that's for 4.0. If not: 3. Which upgrade will be better for low-mid range torque? Stroker or supercharger kit? Thanks! [edit: Just saw Alexia has a stroker and a SC on her truck, hope she will give some feedback]
  7. I got spoiled by good new cars hahaha and also live in Canada, lots of snow on a winter time. ABS helps a lot. But then most of my vehicles didn't have it and I sure can live without it. Or retrofit one from another Jeep
  8. Good news - it has 8.25 :) So I guess there are write ups on how to make a swap, no more questions then. Bad news - no ABS, but oh well.
  9. Gears exist, 4.27 for D44, rest are there for d30/35, not very common though. Regarding flat: not all cars equipped with a full size spare and live with it. One 33" will do. Flat bed or bedless setup is another discussion, assume it has to be done for other reasons for the sake of this topic. (In my case, box is so rotten, I will get rid of it, I got another one but that is low priority now) This topic is for discussion only, just let people think about something not commonly done.
  10. Just as an example, a thread is 18.5/32" (MickeyThompson), that is 1.15", on a 35" tire it is 3.3% so if you put half worn tires on the front and brand new on the back, you will get about 1.6% diameter difference. Here I shown 0.7%, less than a half of that.
  11. Just something to think about, not yet planning to do that to my Jeep. Let's say, I decide to run 31 on the front and 33 on the back. According to the gear ratio chart (XJ in this case), different gears need to be used. 31 - 3.91 (2756 rpm @ 55 mph and 4th gear) 33 - 4.11 (2721) or 33/35: 33 - 4.56 (2847) 33 - 4.27 (2827) The difference is mere 1.3%/0.7% in engine rpm, will this have severe effect on a transfer case? I mean, these numbers are pretty much within tire wear tolerance. Some may ask "why bother?", well MJ can have a flatbed and thus accommodate bigger tires there while getting 2 inch extra height of tires on the front will cost a lot in a lift kit, ride quality etc.
  12. you can also try to find Mopar 82200940 kit. that is original dealer installed AC kit for Cherokees. Should be bolt on, but missing few parts (compressor and something else) and hard to find. Saw it on eBay sometime ago for $600 and googling the kit gives the link to that eBay sale (sold) or my build thread on a local forum :)
  13. No, It could not be a Dana 44. It could be a Dana 35 or a Chrysler 8.25. General rule of thumb: W/o ABS ==> Chrysler 8/25 W/ ABS ==> Dana 35 Got it, thanks! Will post an update tomorrow!
  14. Don't waste the effort. Definitely not worth any investment whatsoever. Find a 97+ Chrysler 8.25 out of a Cherokee, or a Ford 8.8, and put a eal axle under your truck. The Dana 35 is fine for street driving and light wheeling, but once you're into a lift and large tires, it won't cut it. After some thought, I agree. Is D44 worth getting? I saw nice aftermarket ones (G2) but again, it has all Cherokee connections. edit: Actually, I am going to get that XJ delivered tomorrow morning and will take a closer look at the axle. Could be 8.25 or D44 there, the truck has all bells and whistles, so may have an upgraded axle as well.
  15. Both D35, that's why I want to add a truss bar. Alrighty, so I will need shocks too. Thanks! I will take a closer look, maybe it won't be worth it to move axle around, just swap the locker. Both 4L, auto, 4x4 (231) The major difference in layout is the location of a transmission shifter, it's on a steering wheel on MJ thanks!
  16. Hello guys, First of all, greetings, I am new here. I've been reading this forum for a while, even registered earlier. Though, I am not much of a chatting person, more interested in tech. For some reasons, I thought the topic I need an answer to has already been covered, but search doesn't answer many details. Here is the question I wanted to ask: I got 1999 XJ, which I will use as a DD until I fix up the body of the 1988 MJ (has major rust issues), so a year or two. Then I plan to swap entire interior, engine, transmission (still debating about this one as it needs to be re-built while MJs works perfectly). However, until this time, I want to upgrade Cherokee with some off-road parts. As the front end will go without any major problems, the rear end is somewhat worries me. The axle in particular. I want to add a truss bar on it and a locker. Will I be able to swap the rear axle into MJ assuming SOA setup? What kind of a lift I need to put on XJ to have MJ leveled later? Other than a spring perch, does it need any other modifications? Will it clear other parts of the XJ axle and a truss bar? I will put all new leaf springs but planning to re-use XJ shocks (from a lift kit), are they the same? Thank you very much!
