  1. interesting mix of parts on there! the flares are unique, TJ mirrors on the pre-82 CJ doors. should have the 258, but i'm not sure. and what is that thing below the alternator? all and all.... AWESOME! i love CJs!
  2. i do plan on fixing it up. and yes, the wood floor is temporary until someone can weld some sheetmetal in for me.
  3. Hello all, you may have seen some pics of it in the Pub section. but i'm gonna start my own build thread. couple of notes. i'm not really a mechanic, but i try to do what i can. also, keep in mind, i do not have a garage, so keeping the truck apart for long periods of time with the winter coming is an issue. plus, i still need to use it for truck stuff, like carrying things. haha. 1989 Jeep Comanche Pioneer, long bed, 6cyl, auto, 4x4, 293k on the odometer. engine was swapped at some point. The truck needs a good amount of work, dash wiring, rust repair on body and floor. gas tank was replaced by previous owner last year, but he said it leaks around one of the fittings if there's more than half a tank of gas in it. The frame under the bed looks good, just some surface rust. Here it driving home. 2 hour drive. it did just fine. and some pics one it got in the driveway. Couple of days after I took some more pics to see what i was dealing with. I also put in my freebie truckbox, and secured the spare. The spare mount under the bed is very rusty, and i did not even want to attempt using it. The headlight switch is busted. All it does now is turn on the interior lights. The wiring going to the switch is totally butchered. I'm guessing it was all in a harness that connected to the switch, but all that's there now is loose wires. The "replacement" switch the previous owner put in was only connected to the headlights, as a make-shift solution I used a wiring diagram and connected the parking lights to the switch as well so at least I can use the truck legally at night. Once i get some extra money, I'll buy the real headlight switch. I also want to go through all the dash wiring and make it all neat and correct. Next, I needed a temporary solution to the hole in the floor. Once it gets warm and someone can weld for me, I'm going to put in new sheet metal, or maybe some aftermarket replacement floor pans.
  4. i tried a search and found nothing. has anyone changed the shifter from a column mount to a floor mount? for an automatic of course. also if i do decide to keep the column mount, is there a way to fit a PRND321 indicator that is on column itself instead of in the cluster? i figured having it on the column itself will make it easier when i do a gauge swap.
  5. i had death wobble pretty bad on my old XJ after i lifted it 3 inches. new beefier lower control arms remedied the issue for me.

    Title question

hello fellow Rhode Islanders, I'm from Warwick.

    Title question

I'm from RI too, just registered my comanche. In RI, for vehicles over 10 years, you do not need the title to register it. you just need the previous owner's registration. you also do not need a VIN check if it's over 10 years old. Also, the RI DMV will only re-title vehicles that year 200 or newer. this is from the RI DMV website, http://www.dmv.state.ri.us/titles/ ---------------------- Here you will find information about taxes, titles, duplicate titles, salvage information, custom builds, leased vehicles, and lien information.. PLEASE NOTE: The DMV is currently titling vehicles that are 2000 and newer. Vehicles that are older than 10 years are not titled. The Registration Files section in the Pawtucket DMV branch can assist you in documenting the vehicle's information. ---------------------
  8. i can't afford it right now. maybe someone here can. http://providence.craigslist.org/pts/1435071830.html Dana 44 out of 91 jeep comanche all rebuilt drum to drum evyerthing new but drums welded and never broke still in truck.. doing a 1 ton swap so it needs to go have matching dana 30 frontall rebuilt ....no pics .. looks like a dana 44 200$
  9. it was only $1200. so not bad there. I'll take a look under the passenger side as you guys said to check it out for rust. am I in real trouble if it is rotted out?
  10. thanks for the replies so far! keep the ideas coming, please! haha. since it's getting cold here in Rhode Island, the floor may have to wait until it gets warm. i unfortunately have no garage or access to one. i KNOW this is going to sound awful.... but i need something to get me by for the winter.... has anyone ever fashioned any type of wood panel for the floor such as mine. i just need something there until i can find someone who can weld for me. also, once it gets warm, i think i'm gonna take out the entire interior, dash included, and really clean things up.
  11. i got under the back end, under the bed. a little bit of surface stuff, but barely anything.
  12. ok guys, i got my 89 MJ a week ago. today i finally got around to REALLY inspecting it. some areas are not as bad as i thought, some are just plan awful. i need some advice on where to go from here with it, i'm feeling a bit like i'm screwed. is it too far gone? 1989 MJ Pioneer, 4.0 I6 , auto, long bed. here's some pics. front drives upper hinge rusted off and prev owner rigged it back on. the area where the striker pin is is starting to rust away. drivers side rocker panel passenger rocker passenger floor driver floor (whats left of it) prev owner said the headlight stopped working, and no would could fit it. and they wired in some king of half-@$$ switch. the interior lights still working by twisting the factory switch. the hacked switch turns on just the headlights, nothing turns on the running lights. brake lights still work when pedal is press and the flashers still work as normal.
  13. so would a full harness swap with a newer 4.0 be enough to eliminate the whole renix system?
  14. i do not have the stock flairs, so until i may have to leave those on for now. i figured i need some lift for 33's, i do not want them to rub. the tires on it now are luckily in decent shape. i'm just keeping it drive-able for the winter. then i'll start working on it more once it gets warm again.
  15. found out it's the pioneer trim. when i put in vin my insurance companies website it came back as that, wasnt expecting it, but pretty cool.
  16. i call it a hat. haha. it's ok so far. ill post my door question on the tech board. thanks all. *edit* i actually searched and found a way to fix the door hinge! woo!
  17. it's 4x4. so i guess its just stock height, the old rancho shocks on it were throwing me off. i know it's got the cluster with the giant fuel gauge instead of a tachometer, it's got A/C, bench seat. besides a dirty interior and the normal rust/rot under the doors, it's pretty decent. there's not much rust under the bed at all. one bad spot is the upper drivers door hinge rotted off. any write-ups for a fix? i'm assuming welding is necessary.
  18. hey all. introducing myself to the board. new MJ owner as of today. 89 Comanche, 4.0/auto wondering if anyone can tell by these pics what trim level this truck is? I'm assuming base with the longer bed. also, it looks to me like it's got a little lift on it. maybe 2 inches, can anyone confirm? thanks all!
