  1. The one I am looking for goes on the rod that adjusts the seat tracks front-back. The previous owner complained they were fragile and kept breaking. ;-) I need two of them or two or something equivalent. I suppose a piece of fuel hose would work, but if I can find the correct part I like to keep things as original as possible.
  2. For what it's worth, (which is not much...), I like to just rebuild what is there. That way you know everything fits and you should have an engine good for another 200k miles. If you take the parts to your local automotive machine shop, they will do all the machining and order all of the correct pieces so all you have to do is put it back together again. Or they may even do that for a fee. You might also consider taking the trans to a local shop and have them go throught it too while it is easy to get out. They'll probably only have to replace the syncros. Comanche pickups are on the edge of becoming collectible so there is some value in keeping them all original if you can and are inclined.

1989 Jeep Comanche 6 cyl Build Date: 6/89 Mileage: 77,626 Location: Redondo Beach, CA -> West Lafayette, IN Recently purchased from the 2nd owner, who puchased it from a friend of mine. I bought it because of the low miles and I needed a decent 4WD pickup truck back in Indiana for when I'm back there doing some property maintenance and to run around on the 'Back-40'. Just completed lots of deferred maintenance: Fluids, Idle Air Control Valve, Neutral Safety Switch, fuel filter, rear wheel cyinders, axle seals, 3rd brake light bulb, reglue mirror, brake hardware, rear wheel bearing, TPS Sensor, water pump, replace missing rim, new Firestone Destination A/T tires, replace missing center caps, etc. The 1st owner took great care of it, the 2nd owner, not so much. Interior is still pristine, although it needs a new headliner for the second time. Passed California SMOG today, has a problem with the front axle nasty noise that we'll work on next. Silver paint, long bed. Has been repainted once, but needs another repaint. Could use a right front fender too. Little rust since it was a California vehicle, but will need some attention if we repaint it. I'm the current owner.
  4. Is the plastic handle that goes over the bucket seat adjuster handle available anywhere? Or is there an appropriate functional equivalent?
  5. Looking for a sending unit to have rebuilt. Does not need to be working but all parts need to be there.
  6. Tri Starr claims they can rebuild them: www.tristarrradiator.com (315) 712-0071. I just bought a 73k mile Comanche from a friend of mine, who bought it from another friend of mine. Needed a bunch of work and a SMOG certificate (California vehicle) but that is all done except for a nasty front axle noise that we'll tackle on Monday. It also needs a fuel sending unit. I'd like to give Tri Starr a try but would like to find a used unit that I can send in so the vehicle is not down. Does anyone have a used sending unit they would be willing to sell? I'll take some photos before and after and report on how Tri Starr does. - Greg
