Meant.. Can I swap the 1989 bellhousing onto the 1985 trans?

The 1985 is not equipped to fit a CPS. I can swap the 1989 bellhousing onto the 1985 transmission and keep the CPS, but I will lose the External Slave. Anyway around this?

Ok, new to site,new to comanches. Done some searching and can't find an answer. I have a 1989 2wd Comanche with a bad AX4, was going to swap in a 4X4 AX4 out of a 1985 Cherokee (because it has an external slave) and do a 4wd conversion. Evidently I didn't do enough research and I have discovered that the 1985 tranny doesn't have a crank positioning sensor. Anyway to make this work? Or did I waste my money? Thanks for any help and advice

excellent. thank you. i never thought of the problems with the transfer case. I have seen alot for sale out of TJ and YJ but having a hard time finding a 4 cyl XJ for parts. I will just keep plugging away on craigslist. Thanks again.

New to comanches and the forum. Bought an 89 2wd 2.5L MJ with bad AX4. Looking to convert it to 4wd. Will a 4wd AX5 out of any model and/or year jeep bolt up as long as it comes from a 2.5L? or does it have to be out of an AMC era jeep? Searched all over the internet but can't find a straight answer. Any help greatly appreciated!!!
