hehe.. some of them think they are hot, but the Infrared may disappoint them!

Bought a Ryobi TEK 4 infrared temp detector. Gauges appeared to be showing around 230 on the dash while the Ryobi infrared gun was showing approx. 220 around the thermostat after about 20 minutes of idling. I had the A/C on too. Top of exhaust pipe was around 450 degrees. Sky was around 1.2 degrees (supposedly doesn't measure accurately beyond two feet) and leaves on trees were about 75 degrees. I can't wait to take it to work to see who the "hottest" chick is!

"Check it with one of those fancy infrared thermometers. Aim it at the thermostat housing and see what you find." ...sounds interesting, I think I'll look into buying one of those.

Hi thanks for the input! I just got home from work after driving 12 miles. It wasn't particularly hot outside, around 75 degrees. These were the gauges I pulled from the junkyard (off of a 1992 Cherokee) to replace the idiot lights. Installed new oil pressure and temp sensors for gauges. Hmm.. maybe Apple with Safari doesn't work with uploading photos?

Cool, I probably should have done that! Couldn't figure out how to undo that shift indicator wire to save my life and had to break it to get the old idiot gauges out.

Looks a little hot but maybe not? My truck seems to run fine(4.0 HO) but this gauge still makes me nervous. It was driven about 12 miles and the outside temperature was around 70 degrees here in Atlanta. Thanks for any info! I tried to follow instructions for loading images from Photobucket but not sure if it worked?

Thanks everyone, I feel better now! Freaked me out at first. When I took the old one out I couldn't tell that it was at an angle until I tried to put the new one in and it would only go in at a slight angle. It's not the easiest place to install one! Anyway I did put pipe thread tape on it and it seems to be watertight!

Replaced the idiot light temp switch with a gauge switch in my 1991 H.O. 4.0 and the temp switch seemed to be at a slight angle (around 3-5 degrees) in the head, not straight up and down. Does this sound right? Thanks in advance!

Thanks! I'll be on the lookout for a cluster! Got the sensor ordered. Oil pressure sensor was available but they had to order the temp sensor.

Hello and thanks in advance I'm sure this has probably been discussed just couldn't find any info.. I have a 1991 Comanche with idiot light gauges and need to replace them with actual needle gauges. Will 1991 Cherokee clusters work? There seems to be more Cherokees avaliable at the junkyards. I know I have to replace the oil and temp switches. Thanks!
