  1. So about two weeks ago I traded my Jetta for an MJ and have been happy with it every minute since. I will post photos and descriptions of the progression of my MJ on here (as is the idea with this section, right?). Thanks! Items completed so far: Fixed warped rear bumper - left side had been twisted upward from past low-speed impact. Replaced valve cover gasket - was leaking oil tremendously. Degreased and pressure-washed engine, firewall, undercarriage, and, well, whole truck! Cleaned connection points with coil pack - thought it went bad on me, but was just dirty. Installed new stereo - ran new speaker wires front and back, kenwood deck with kicker speakers. De-Redneck-ified wiring... everywhere! Took out gobs of useless and rigged wiring from inside dash and engine bay. New headlights - much needed. The List: Too big to type up. Here are my priorities: Performance, Comfort, Looks. Photos of when I first got it:
  2. Okay, don't laugh too much... but I had either an idea  or bad brain-fart :ack: over here... :dunno: What if, in the mean time (of me doing a VC replacement or rebuild), I was to create a catch can / drain tube such as the 'wonderfully illustrated' diagram below? I'm thinking it would work... :smart: The attachment to the dipstick tube would probably be a T-attachment of some sort, that would essentially extend the dipstick by about 1/4", in turn I would re-mark of make a mental note of the new "add, full" lines on the dipstick. Something worth considering... has anyone else done or thought of this?
  3. MrSimon: I like it... any photos of the front of the MJ? Which lift kit did you go with? Approx. cost? Ren: You talkin' to me?? :wavey:
  4. Cool, thanks everyone. I don't plan on 4wheeling with the truck, just want the look, I suppose. I'd like to put 31x10.50s on the truck with the aluminimum wheels that's on it now (they came with the truck... bought it a few weeks ago).
  5. I've also read on here about a VC replacement with a newer one... I'm going to price the parts from a JY and possibly do that soon. Thanks guys!
  6. I've tried searching for this without much luck. Does anyone know of or have a chart that will show what tire size you can fit under each stage of lift kit without fender-cutting and rubbing? I am looking to get a small lift kit to put 30x10.50 or 31x10.50 under my truck. It needs some help and I'm getting ready to need new tires anyway. I'm looking for a cheap, good quality lift kit. Photo of my comanche as is below.
  7. Great! Thanks guys! I took the time and checked all of my vac lines today and cleaned them thoroughly. I found that one of the EGR tubes was clogged, but other than that all was well. Until I can get another VC from a JY and do the swap, I've put on a small conical filter to keep the oil from going into my airbox again. I'll try to post photos of it below.
  8. Similar problem here, but with my '88 4.0L ... air filter is SOAKED with oil and I'm losing about 1/2 a qt every 100 miles. I've checked and the ONLY leak is from my front vent.
  9. Going back to the oil leakage/blowout... Is there any way to rig up a way for the air to pass and the oil stay? I'm losing a lot of oil into the filter and through the air box. I've seen some people put a small conical filter on the valve cover tube... does this work?
  10. Ugh... so there's not really an easy fix... wonder why it started 'all the sudden'?
  11. I have a dilemma... my Comanche ('88, 4.0L, 5-spd) is blowing large quantities of oil into my airbox via the front vent tube from the valve cover! I recently replaced the valve cover gasket and cleaned out the 'ports' leading to the vents remembering to replace the metal 'flaps' and gaskets. This was happening prior to me changing the gasket (I recently got this truck) but seems to have gotten worse, probably due to the lines being clean and unrestricted. It's blowing enough oil that after driving 100 miles I have to put 1/2qt. into the engine! HELP!!! :help:
