  1. yeah I'm sure they would, I'm going to mount some down on the axle. The guy I got it from did the SOA, I would at least turn them and swap them from side to side to get the shocks on the front of the axle. How he put them has the shocks at like 45 degree angles back.
  2. Oh yeah I guess it is 5 inches forward with a 2.8, guess I should had done a little more research before but in, didn't know an 86 would be such a black sheep. Iv been searching everywhere trying to find a post where some one with a 2.8 xj or mj installed long arms. Seems most swap to 4.0 before..
  3. I was pricing out long arm kits today and the rough country one says it doesn't fit with the 2.8v6 or diesel motors. Any idea why that'd be? Or know which kits work?
  4. That's a great thing to know! Thanks I'll look into doing that
  5. The picture showing the broken leafs shows the perch on top of the axle. But is the 8.25 bad? I'd like to get it going then build it better as I go, but anything that doesn't seem capable wheeling I'd like to get out of the way like I'm thinking with the whole vacume actuated transfercase, don't trust it..
  6. Local of road park Took a beating! Idea I got on here! And that's where I'm at
  7. Thanks! Phone died. We didn't make it up the mountain but the melonheads were good anyways So of course I decided to take the ditch around him Made it with my girlfriend the next day Then she needed some TLC Lost 4by Started leaking again after replacing the seal
  8. Well I'm pretty new on here and have only had my Comanche for 2 months at the most now but I feel like we've been best friends for years. I figured I'd start a thread from the beginning with pictures to use when I need to ask for questions. Also I'm not much for writing alot but can't help but take pictures all the time. When I picked her up Maiden voyage Me and a buddy tried making it up a local mountain to find some mellonheads, they run up stream this time of year
  9. The transmission gets reallyyyy hot after a few hours of trail riding I'm just hoping I can get it to hold oil and keep the temp down for a bit
  10. I'm just hoping I can just crack it open and squirt a bead of gasket maker in there and close it back up, just to keep me going for a few more months till I get some more stuff situated and have time to pull and have the transmission rebuilt
  11. I'm pretty much stupid when it comes to transmissions so couldn't tell you what that's called where its leaking so I figured a picture would be better than words, sorry not the best pic didn't feel like crawling in the mud from washing her off
  12. Hey guys how hard is it to fix this seal? Is it simple enough to just separate and add some gasket maker? I figure its about time since she gets awfly hot down there. Transmission isn't in the best shape so I was just hoping to patch her up till she goes. Or if its a more complicated job then I'm hoping I'd say its time to just rebuild the trany
  13. I'll be checking on this post I've only toped mine off once since I owned it and had fuel leaking from the top but didn't have a chance to check it out yet
  14. They're pretty loud anything over 35 but they ride fine I think going down the road. I'm a little floaty with no sway bar and I think I'm in need of totally rebuilding the front steering. Lots of clunking/swaying going on there. Lots of clunking everywhere actually haha but I'm beyond impressd, things a beast! Got a little hot last time out electric fan stopped working, and breaks wouldn't stop me fully coming back down off a ledge mountain top haha
  15. Cool thanks, yeah it took 3 quarts so clearly it must have been about dry, it definetly has a little leak somewhere around the front of it. Didn't really have time to check it out since I need to get some sleep for work tonight.
  16. Biotex or anyone, best way to check the transmission oil?
  17. Both doors and front fenders! But I still don't have a passenger mirror just 2 drivers! And 2 sets of front axles and one rear set in the toolbox also. I thew an antique plate in her and took her for a ride today, definitaly have to put the sway bar back on, and find a little front end clunk that I couldn't find by myself when jacked up. And the transmission is a little loud, mostly reverse and threw off a little heat, prolly gunna check/ add fluid tomorrow. Is there a spot to fill it? Or pop the shifter out and fill through top? Still need to farmilarize myself with this thing but I'm beyond happy, I'll post some maiden voyage pictures later on. Also anyone know the lowest/ best spot to drill a hole in the floor to drain water out of the cab? ;)
  18. Well I brought her home this morning! :)
  19. Thanks for all the advise headed to go look at it again but with a trailer this time. Both diffs had very new looking gaskets on them, motor oil looked brand new, the floors he replaced and looked mint. The long arm bracket is mount and looked to be done right and solid. Only thing you guys mentioned that I didn't look at all was the fenders under the flares. There was 2 dime sized holes on one rocker I don't mind fixing, one hole on the bedside. And a few spots with bubbling rust but are still solid. Thanks again! I knew I lurked on this forum for a reason
  20. Thanks! That makes me feel a lot better I'm always just worried that I'm going to to over pay for things. It says 240k on dash but I think the milage and speedo both don't work, motor in it supposedly has no more than 120k frame has been fixed out back looked very legit and strong, floors also. I just gotta touch up on some of my welding skills to attack the body
  21. So I've always wanted a jeep for a woods buggy but have always had my heart set on a Comanche, on and off for at least the last year I've lurked around on this forum and others just to read up on some basics when ever a mj pops up in the classifieds in my area and I planed to go look at one. Always missing out on anyone I had interest in before I even had a chance to go take a lookie see. Now I find this one and am planning on going to pick it up tomorrow. Any opinions? I talked him down to 3200 which I still feel like is a lot for the condition but it has a lot of things I want on it. Thanks! I hope to soon have my own mj and not have to just dream over your builds! Jon http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/3804241080.html
