  1. The copper pellet towards the engine. I emptied about 7 liters into the radiator. I think the the T-stat needs to open to bleed the closed system that's why i think it won't accept anymore fluid unless I do what other have suggested to bleed. I was playing with it (t-stat) before install and noticed that I could not manually resist the spring force to open it.... should have clued in... I'll replace it with a Motor Stat from Canadian Tire.. Can I torch it open with a butane torch :) thanks for the quick responses, Mike
  2. I just installed a new radiator and thermostat. After installed, I filled the rad up through the top radiator hose. I did not bleed the system. Now the engine wants to heat to the 125C (red line) mark and pass, if i were to let it. I get good heat, and the closed system bottle is filled appropriately. The radiator is cold and the upper hose is cold but the engine is up to and past operating temp. I used a new Super Stant thermostat. I was thinking that the cause was air in the system, but with what I said it must be a defective thermostat, Right? thanks
  3. 4 HIGH: Shift-on-the-Fly at speeds up to 88 km/h (55 mph) My truck was Shifting-on-the-fly before I adjusted the shift linkage. Now I need to stop without using the clutch to shift to 4hi. This however is not my concern because when I set up the linkage how it was, my on-the-fly will work up to 55mph. My concern is still my first post and that is why I hear that gear rubbing sound from the trans case when all wheels are break locked and sliding on ice/snow. It must directly relate to what couples the rear to the front and how on-the-fly shifting is possible with out clutches? Are there syncro gears to time the shift? Am I supposed to depress the clutch when shifting to 4hi? I never had to before and had no problems... Again all suggestions are appreciated.
  4. Well my idea of readjusting the transfer case shift lever linkage did not work to correct my problem. I still have the same problem as noted above and I still can't shift to 4hi on the fly. With these part time transfer cases' does it require the clutch to be depressed to shift? I have a 1989 Jeep Comanche, 4.0L, 5 speed, 4x4, 231 trans case (part time) with 250***Kms One of you must know what would cause that gear rubbing sound in the transfer case and it has something to do with how it is possible to shift on the fly with out stripping the linkage gears that connect the rear to the front. Is there a clutch pack in there? Please help :)
  5. The other technician had not run it by his colleges yet, so i went ahead with adjusting the transfer case shift linkage. As a note I still experience the above noted problems. I followed the steps in the Haynes Manual by adding an 1/8 inch shim, loosening the lock bolt on the trunnion and adjust the rod so it fits freely in the trunnion and the shift lever. Well, once I loosened the bolt the trunnion slid automatically back on the rod about an 1/8 of an inch (from the end of the rod) and with my persuasion it would not move in both forth and aft position, so I tightened it there. On a test drive I could not shift it in 4hi with out stopping. Troubleshooting (truck not moving), I put the transfer case in NEUTRAL and when shifting it back to 4hi I would hear that same gear rubbing sound as it shifted. However if I pressed in the clutch when shifting to 4hi (from neutral) it would go in with out any sound. I will try to force the trunnion from it's position now and slide it about 1/4 inch toward the end of the rod (or an 1/8 inch to get it back where it was). I'm hopping this will enable my 'on the fly 4 wheel drive' (as to how it was working before) and stop that gear rubbing sound when break sliding to a stop. Any suggestions would be a great help and the thoughts of those that already suggested is much appreciated. Michael
  6. If this approach was taken what adverse affects would it have on the drive line? If none, why was stock not setup this way? Drag reduction?
  7. It's the strangest thing! It's almost as if the front axles are not fully engaged and when the wheels are locked up that one axle is locked while the other is rubbing its gears against it. I had asked two knowledgeable technicians and one I will talk to soon, but the other said to check things like front break rotors or transfer case mounts... Which is funny because it's definitely sounds like a ratcheting
  8. Ok, I'm on a down slope hill glazed in ice. Going whatever speed in 2hi then throw the trans in Neutral and hammer the breaks results in a sliding STOP. In both 4hi & 4lo when I do the same as above I hear a clicking/gear rubbing sound coming from either the transfer case or the front end. What is this sound and why does it happen and what is the fix? thanks
  9. Is the noise consistent in both 4hi and 4lo? Or does it hardly happen in 4lo? Does the noise repeat more frequently on higher traction surfaces? Have you checked the oil in your drive drain?
  10. First: How do you know it's popping in or out if it's only for a split second? I would suspect Drive Line Wind Up. Are you using different tires in the front and the rear. By different, I don't necessarily mean 235-75-15, I mean that size but different makes or tread patterns of that size? Is it a clunk or bang every 10 to 45 seconds?
  11. Alright! I think I found it. The 1157, bottom two prong, goes in the two prong sockets. And the 1156, bottom one prong, goes in the one prong sockets. Well that should do it, 'IF' 1157 and 1156 are the only two styles of exterior bulbs.
  12. Hello to all, I was reading a post trying to diagnose an electrical issue and came across this post: "2057 and 1157 can be used interchangeably. 1156 is used in the tail lights, but only for backup lights" (carnuck) I went to Canadian Tire and their database showed this" 2057 - Tail stop light 1156 - Backup / turn / corner lights 194LL - Marker light (my truck does not use this bulb) Does anyone know off hand if this is correct? Also it made no mention of those front fog lights below the headlights. What bulb number? My bulbs are a little mixed up, I'm not that lazy! Thanks for the input, I'll continue my search and post anything I find
