  1. Well it cam down to putting a new roof on the house or a Turbo on the Comanche. My wife won the argument, so it looks like we will get the roof. We will still be racing. We changed the rear end ratio and went to different lubricants. New tires and wheels have also come in. We will be at Maxton NC March 2-3 for the hot rod top speed challenge. I will be sending updates via Twitter, just follow Comanche_LSR3
  2. Where were you a year ago? I already have the manual box, thanks for the offer though
  3. Looking on RockAuto for a 86 XJ, the do sell the Master and it comes with a rod, so maybe all i have to do is swap it in.
  4. I'm looking to loose the brake booster on the Bonneville truck,( we do have a parachute and really don't use the brakes) I am also running a vacuum pump so i would really like them both to go. If I look at Rock Auto it seems to imply that Cherokees were available with manual ( non-power) brakes I assume that an adapter plate would be bolted in place of the booster and the master cylinder bolted to that. Any chance sombody could verify if this was actually an option( or standard?) Would somebody have a plate lying around? Maybe CJ stuff would fit? Thanks
  5. 118mph and 13.2 Sec in the Quarter mile
  6. Christmas came in February this year. I received a shipment from Lee at Hesco, A block and enough components to build a 3.0L Short block. These were used in the stadium trucks back in the day, Looks like 3.5" bore and 3" stroke. Billet crank that takes Chevy rods. It will run @ 7500 rpm all day long.
  7. 88 Jeep Comanche, 5 speed, 5.0L Jeep inline 6
  8. The WFC is features on Rusty's off road front page! http://www.rustysoffroad.com
  9. WFC on rustys Off Road front page. http://www.rustysoffroad.com/
  10. Lets see some pic's of you jeep, so we can tell you how stupid it is.
  11. Rusty's supplied some special front suspension parts, special links and brackets. When we lowered it it caused some problems and we had to get rid of the rubber bushings. The archarer brothers option was rare, and yo had to have at least 500 vehicles to qualify as a production vehicle.
  12. Just a note, in the January 2011 issue of JP in the letters section their is a picture of the Comanche and my letter
  13. I think the Comanche you are talking about is the Lake view Cruiser http://home.comcast.net/~lakeviewcruiser/site/?/page/Building_The_Lakeview_Cruiser/&PHPSESSID=9119c8d039b07acbccf7cc644a7ece8d This truck has a chevy V8 in it and yes it is faster then my Comanche, but is it really a true Comanche with a V8? We are still in the land speed business, we plan to run a turbo this summer and be putting 750hp or so to the ground. Our first stop will be to Maxton NC in April to try and set the standing mile record with the existing engine. When we return we will pull the engine ad swap the 14:1 pistons out for some 9.5:1 turbo pistons. Then return to Maxton in june for a shakedown run before going to Bonneville in August. Hopefully we will be joining the 200mph club.
  14. I can always run 2 temp sensors and 2 oil pressure sensors, I think that will be the only issue.
  15. It plays a role in that i can steal a dash out of a pre91 XJ or MJ and make it work.
  16. I think most of the gauges on the Renix vehicles were not controlled from the computer. I think the gauge issue is only on the 91 and up. I'm sure somebody will chime in and tell me if I am wrong.
  17. Things are moving forward Slowly, I picked up a 96 XJ that i plan to put the 180 hp 2.9 Atlas engine in. I will purchase a Manual trans and bell housing, and see if the bell housing fits an Ax5 and/or ax15. I may just end up using the trans that goes with the motor. They don't seem to cost that much. I will probably use the GM engine controller and accessories. I am not sure how to handle the gauges, i guess i will have to work it out. I did start a website to try and collect information on the Atlas engine family http://www.vortec4200.com and i will document my swap up there as well.
  18. Ok After more research, it looks like Atlas engine would be an easy swap into a Comanche. The colorodo and Canyon use an asin transmission, so the bellhousing should probably bolt up to an AX5 or AX15. For an auto swap, the best way to go would be to swap the engine, trans and transfercase. You would have to use the GM electronics, but it would make sure everything would work together.
  19. Its the same engine, the exhaust manifold form a sky or solstice might be better. Actually i have been leaning towards the Atlas motors used in the Colorado, canyon and trialblazers. Looks like to bolt pattern might be the same as the small metric gm pattern used on the 4cylinder Jeep vehicles. The starter is high on the drivers side, so I might have to cut a piece out of the bellhousing and weld in a bump for the starter.
  20. First see what model you would like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Family_II_engine The LE5 motor looks like a good choice. Then take the make, model and year of the car that had the engine you were looking for and go to http://www.car-part.com and search for boneyards in your area that have what you are looking for. I put in a 2006 colbalt and got prices between $375 and $1,100.00 most were somewere in the middle. Find a boneyard that has a few and try and get it complete with computer, wiring harness and accessories.
  21. I was not sure what the LSJ or LNF motors were, so i looked them up, Supercharged Ecotec. My idea was to do the boring motor first to workout the brackets and trans adapter, then put the 260hp turbo motor in later.
  22. I was looking at the HP numnbers for that engine, seem pretty low. What is the actual spec?
  23. WOW 1 person beside me thinks it would be cool! I thought NOBODY was going to like the idea! Maybe after i get it together i can get some more converts.
  24. Probably the eaiest way to go diesel would be to get a motor from an 85 or 86 diesel Xj or MJ. Might be hard to find.
