  2. i am pretty sure the motor was a 4.0, i will have the check it out tomorrow, but i am sure the output shaft on the tranny was 21 spline, what is the count on the ax-15, you got a recommendation on front axle
  3. Quick question, back to my projects and started hitting the JYs, found an 95 TJ with an AX-15 tranny, tranfer case gone with a 21 spline output shaft, external slave, is this the tranny i want for my comanche? its a 1988 with the puegot which has second gear clicking like crazy, i know i read somewhere that the 231 TC in the 88 won't work unless spline count is the same but i don't know yet, any help would be appreciated. I also had an awesome find which i have been searching for for quite some time,I heard that they were rare but I found an 87 comanche with the MT pkg and rear D44 so of course i will snag that for 200 bucks pulled and placed in my truck. Should i get the springs or anything else, Transfer case, ETC this is also for the 88 that the AX-15 is for, and i am also searching for a front axle for this truck what i have read is the 30 is weak unless shafts and joints are replaced, so what should i look for and what vehicle should i get it from, i found several with disc brakes and was going to put in the 8.8 rear but the 44 is a good find from what people here are saying, but i am stuck on which front axle. I will be running 35x12.50 and hit moab regularly. Thanks in advance

  9. just bought the truck,( second one my wife is getting a little upset i think i have the bug pics to come soon as well as project summery) 1988 jeep comanche, 4.0, pukegoat 5 speed, np 231 133k miles it has a stuttering problem with very little throttle applied in all gears but you can power through it with more throttle, if held there it will continue to pop and stumble unless you just under or over that spot. i checked tps and it was fine but replaced it with another anyway i checked cap and rotor and wires and plugs all were new and recently put in. i replaced fuel filter and ran injector cleaner through system still there. i am not thinking in the direction of fuel system due to low load seems to be same spot or load situation what do you genius COMANCHE owners think thanks in advance

  12. Hello everybody, Long time watcher,First time poster. I finally found what i have been looking for  THE COMANCHE, funny thing is i found it in a junkyard\impound lot, owner said it had been there for a year or so and it was complete minus the window cranks and only 80K miles. I was there looking for other parts when i came upon it, the only prob was it is 2WD but its a 4.0 but after reading this forum for 6 months sounds like you guys have it down to a science so the project begins, don't know what to name it yet but that will come later, first came the obvious floors, pulled carpet and found that there was only a little surface rust on pass side, ordering por 15 later this week and then off to get some rhino lining in bed and floor in cab. then on to the JY's the long parts list is already written :D . i will take lots of pics and keep them coming thanks to all for the great info and ideas hope i remember to give credit where credit is due as i go along if not set me straight and i hope to add a few as well. I am in UT and will be building this to be a DD but a very capable trail vehicle as well because i frequent Moab regulary. I am a sand rail-offroad car fabricator/Rec vehicle mecanic shop owner so i hope to add a little offroad racing flare to the mix Thanks again stay tuned
