  1. Hey guys I've got an '89 4.0L auto 4wd and I'm looking to rewire the entire truck. I'm an electronics technician on helicopters so it's not going to be too difficult for me to figure it out, the difficult part for me has been trying to find the parts necessary for the job. Does anybody know where I can buy the wiring harness and all other wiring I need? Thank you in advance!!!!
  2. hey guys I'm buying new shocks with my next paycheck and I'm looking into the rancho rs9000xl because of the shocktober deal they got going on. my truck is on a 5.5" lift with 35x12.50's. can someone tell me what size shocks i should buy? I'm on 4wheelparts.com and they give me different size options so if someone could lead me in the right direction, I'll have some brand new shocks shortly :))
  3. I'll have to get back to you on that one. at work right now so I'll check it in the morning. I'm willing to bet my u-joint could use replacing because I'm guessing it's never been swapped out. the truck used to drive on the freeway just fine in overdrive but at about 55-60 it would buck really hard every once in a while and I had no idea what it was so that's when i decided to start swapping parts out and upgrading because the truck seemed to be falling apart beneath me. any clue as to why it would buck like that?
  4. because the distributor and wires were all replaced by the PO and he himself didn't replace the plugs. they were dirty as all get up when i removed them. sad to see what people do
  5. it does is AS SOON AS it shifts into fourth (auto tranny) and its definitely not death wobble beause i get doeath wobble and its scary as hell haha. this is definitely and engine or tranny issue and it scares me because i don't want my engine to fail on me and I'm still novice to the whole jeep maintenance thing. I'm learning things as i go and this problem just came up and I'm stumped so if you have any clue, it's greatly appreciate! -matt
  6. hey guys could anybody tell me why my truck runs great in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear but when it shifts into 4th, it starts shaking uncontrollably? It's an 89 with 4.0 renix (obviously) and I have brand new fuel pump, gas tank, injectors, spark plugs, tps, IAC, and CPS. I can't even get this thing to go on the highway because I'm afraid it will fall apart. the problem is ONLY IN FOURTH GEAR and I'm completely stumped.........
  7. hey guys I'm looking to replace my tailgate with a spare tire rack. does anybody know the cheapest place to get one or does anybody have one that they're willing to sell?
  8. Did you end up getting the part? Does anybody have a sending unit for an 18 gallon tank? Cost plus shipping?
  9. it shakes like the engine is missing. its hard on acceleration like it doesn't want to go anywhere but then it smoothes out. i just want to know why it feels like it doesn't want to take off and why it won't let me go into fourth gear without bucking like a bronco (the horse, not the truck).
  10. I'll get those measurements for you. Thanks man!
  11. would the tps cause all of this to happen? no i didn't adjust it but i will if you tell me how :D I bought the truck back in june/july and the HEI aftermarket distributor was already installed with new wires and all that so i couldn't tell you :???:
  12. can anybody tell me why my jeep feels like its drowning when I accelerate? once I get going at about 35-40mph it runs fairly smooth but as soon as it drops into fourth gear, it shakes violently and I'm scared to drive any faster because I'm worried it will fall apart. Somebody please help this noob!!!!! I have recently installed a new gas tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, TPS, IAC Valve, and 4-port fuel injectors. It was acting up before I installed the new injectors and once I installed them it idled fine and I finally got it on the road after installing every other part with no prevail. Please help!
  13. Hey guys my comanche is sitting on what the previous owner calls a 5.5" lift. he has rough country suspension but they're so worn down its hard to drive this thing without getting brain damage. I've been shopping for shocks and everything i run into has an application for a 2.5" lift but nothing that says it will fit my 5.5. what do I do in this situation? also if you have any shocks for sale please let me know.
  14. Hey guys I just swapped my stock injectors to a 4 port set up and when I went to start my Jeep it started squirting fuel out of the vacuum cylinder at the end of the rail. I know its on all the way so why is it doing this???
  15. I haven't checked the spark, but I'll do it like you said. Are you talking about the plug wires? Because they're as new as the HEI distributor that the previous owner had installed so still pretty brand new. I'll have to check out that grounding strap that you're talking about, I honestly didn't even know it existed. I'm slowly gaining knowledge of my manche and I really appreciate all the insight. Please standby for my response. Again, thank you for helping me and being patient!!!
  16. do you guys think it might just be the injectors? i hate pouring money into this thing with no prevail.
  17. Okay thanks for the tip. Ill find some time this week to hit the JY. They had a manche at the local jy but it's gone now. Thank God xj's are a direct fit
  18. Is there a certain way to install a distributor so the timing doesn't get screwed up or do I just simply throw it on there and hook it up in correct firing order?
  19. The aftermarket distributor has the coil pack inside of it so I'm not sure how to tell if that's the problem or not. Ill go ahead and swap back to stock to see if that fixes the problem. I don't think he sold the truck because it had a problem. It ran perfectly fine for about a month before it started acting up. When I go back to the stock distributor, will I need a new coil pack?
  20. You're right, I shouldn't assume it has nothing to do with spark because I'm definitely no expert. I guess I just figure since everything is so new and it was running perfect that it couldn't be the newest parts. I haven't checked any pressures or any voltage anywhere because I'm not too keen on how to do that yet but I really appreciate the web link and ill follow it to the T. Is there anything else that could be making this happen? Anything a new-ish guy like me wouldn't know about? Also, how do I test or figure out if I have a vacuum leak? Is there a link for that as well?
  21. Hey guys, I just recently joined this forum because I bought an 89 comanche pioneer w/ the straight 6 4.0. It only has about 130k and it ran great when i bought it. Within the last few weeks, I've been noticing my jeep start to sputter and the idle got a little rough. It gradually got worse and worse until I got scared to drive it because I didn't want to make matters worse. At first I thought it would be a fuel problem, so I changed the oil, oil filter, and fuel filter. That didn't help the cause. So I changed the spark plugs. Still nothing. So I dug deeper. I dropped the gas tank, bought a new tank and pump, and installed them both to no prevail. At this point I went from fuel to engine components. I have an HEI aftermarket distributor that was installed by the previous owner. Cracked it open, bone dry, no damage. I checked my fuel lines for leaks and I don't seem to have any (I'm not a genious but I didn't see/smell anything out of the ordinary). Sooooo since I'm assuming it had nothing to do with the spark, I started buying new parts associated with the ignition. I replaced the TPS, I replaced the IAC, and I threw in a new Crankshaft Sensor. STILL HASN'T SOLVED MY PROBLEM!!!!!! As my jeep sits right now, it fires up perfectly with the turn of the key every time. After I fire it up, it runs good for a few seconds, then it starts to slowly choke itself out and eventually dies. Sometimes within only a few seconds of starting......It sputters when I drive down the road with a very evident loss of power. I used to be able to hop on the freeway, pass people doing 80 plus mph, and everything would be dandy. Now I can't even take it past 50mph because it starts shaking and it has no power. It chokes, sputters, shakes, and doesn't want to stay alive. I have to hold the brake down at every stop light and maintain a constant 900rpm with my driver foot. somebody please help me out! this truck is my daily driver and i need it back in running order ASAP!!!!!!!!
