ok so went to the local pick-a-part and found the only xy with the 2.5 motor. i don't know what year it is but i has 4wd. i asked about the price for the front axel, t-case, 5 speed tranny, and drive shaft. they gave me the price of 600 bucks. the miles on everything are about 130,000 miles. everything should just bolt right up shouldnt it? since its the same motor as the one in my manche? \just curious? let me know what you think?

soo..i have a opportunity to buy a cherokee pioneer 4x4. it has the 4.0 HO to. the truck looks great an d so does the nterior. one small problem though...if it is one...it has about 220,000 miles. is that bad? how many miles do there motors usally last? anybody with the motor? i looked at the ground below and couldnt find any fluids leaking..i guess thats good. i want to use it for a daily driver as i build it up and its only 1295.00. is this a good buy or am i just wasting my money and time?

it wasnt that difficult. just doing it on the lift and never having experiance was the problem. it didnt occur to me that i could take the crossmember off till later in the project. if the crossmember isnt off it makes it extremely difficult to put a full size mount on and trying to make it fit in the spot of a compressed one ya-know?

any body on here replace a tranny mount? an d with out a lift? i did it yesterday and it was a pain in the butt. it turned out to be the solution to the loud creaking noise i was hearing when i shifted in an dout of first though. if anybody has let me know how it went.

so i bought this 89 comanceh and it was running but now i have a problem...when i took it to get a tune up we did the fuel system an deverything to be running ok. now when i go to start it all it does is turn over. maybe....sometimes it will start but only for a second cause i can't get it to stay started. previously before i owned the truck it had been sitting for 9 months. could it be bad fuel or bad injectors maybe? i want to sell it and i would like to know what is wrong with it before i do. its bugging me alot. any help would be apriciated. thanks

that might be it but when the noise happens it sounds like its underneath my feet...the vibrations are very loud

i have this new noise coming from under the truck and i was wondering if you guys might be able to figure it out. you know when you get out of a bed and i gives a loud deep creeking noise..well when i come to a compleete stop, shift into first and my truck starts to move this creeking noise develops as i depress the clutch and give it gas. it sometimes does it when i shift into second too. i don't know if this has any revelance to the situation, but i just repaced the catalytic converter and this noise started. don't think they have any connection to the noise. could it be driveshaft?? HELP!

also.... can i make i take the shortbox from the 89 and put it on the 86? what does that intail?
-
i have know in my possesion two MJs. one is a short box 89 4x4, and the other is a longbox 86 4x2. i WAS going to keep the 89, but until i found out i might have to get a new 4.0 for it i decided to try another route.... i don't know why but i like the 2.5 in my 86. i would like to keep the 2wd jeep and switch everything that i need to make it 4x4 from the 89 to the 86. this would be an easy switch right? i have the donor vehicle now...what do i need to do? I'm not going to be using my 86 as a hardcore offroader...just mild roading so i can have it as my dd too. my 89 should have a dana30 in front and the dana35 in rear right? on the 86 the rear brakes are trash and it just so happens the 89 that i bought has all new brakes and instead of just getting new brakes i could swap the axles. that would save me the time of finding out which gears i have to match. i want to have the experience of actually MAKING a 4x4...how do i do it and what do i need?

i might have to be looking for a exhaust mainfold for my previous problem post. i searched rockauto.com and they show two different types for the 4.0. a different one for the pioneer verses the standard comanche model
-
my model of the comanche is the "sportruck" . is that the base model? i know the other models are the eliminator and the pioneer. where does the sportruck fall in? none of the auto stores carry anything for the sportruck...is it the same as the custom?

oil at the end of exhaust manifold
luke87 replied to luke87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the motor on the truck has roughly 200,000 miles on it. if it is the worn cyclinder walls like you said, would it be better to get a new motor or have the machine shop stoke it and do a rebuild? I'm sure a 4.0 motor at the junk yard won't cost that much will it? do you know roughly how much it cost to rebore the engine at the machine shop? -
so i bought another comanche today. it was only 900.00 bucks and its my first 4x4 vehicle. its an automactic with the 4.0. i am the 2nd owner, the interior is near perfect except for excessive amount of dust..nothin a good old cleanin won't take care of ;) my problem.....it has white smoke coming out of the mounting bracket to where the manifold meets the exhaust pipe. there is a build up of black gunk. whats wrong with my truck? I'm leaning toward blown seals in the internals of the engine but want to make sure first.. am i gunna need a rebuild kit for this new project of mine? whats ur input? thx

I just bought another Comanche. its an 89' sportruck 4x4. this is gonna sound stupid and I know I'm a noob, but i have no idea how to get it into 4x4. The lever on the center hump on the floor will only go to 4hi. the lever will not go past the 4hi spot. how do i engage to get to 4low and then how do i disengage? the only other truck I've driven with 4x4 was my dads truck but that was a 2003 silverado. i don't have a clue as to how to work this system. Please help!

ok so i know these posting are all over this site but i want my own personalized response if i may... got an 86' long bed with 2.5 and 4 speed tranny. found a 86 of the same nature but with 4x4 and a 5 speed. owner says that the rear end is busted and wants to sell it for 600 bucks. what do i need for the swap? anything to look out for? or should i just go to a junk yard and take the parts off other jeeps to build my rigg? also, i found a powertrax no-slip locker for the comanche. I'm new to 4x4in so bear with me..the description on the locker says only for 4wd..will it be able to fit in to the rear diff in my truck? it should be a dana 35c..still checkin on that tho..let me know what you think. any opinion or knowledge helpful. thanks
