SInce I'm new here, I wasn't sure if it was normal practice to post information about trucks found in junkyards. I know some forums do it, but if not here then I won't do it again. I didn't spend a lot of time going over them since they didn't have what I cared about so I'm sorry I don't any more information and for some reason I only have a picture of one of them although I know I took pictures of both using my phone. They were both found in Chesterfield Auto Parts, 5111 Old Midlothian Tpke, Richmond VA. (804)233-5481 The first was a 1989 White with blue interior. VIN 1J7FT26L5KL490237. It had an aluminum bed cap lying beside it that was a little dinged up probably when someone removed it. The second is a 1986 Silver with Red interior. VIN 1JTHE6512GT095886. The engine r=looked reallly clean for a junk yard making me think someone had done some work on it then abandoned the project. (I got the tail lights) I have put them in the registry.

Just wanted to say hi and introduce my new toy. I have been looking for a play truck for a while and decided on the comanche. Unique, tough and a jeep. After monitoring this site for a while and doing a little research, I decided I wanted a 91 or 92 4.0L HO, automatic, 4x4 with bucket seats and as unmolested as possible. Wasn't real picky about colors but black and white are not my favorites. As much as possible, the main thing I wanted to avoid was rust. I have a couple of MGB's and they provide me with all the rust challenges I need. Last criteria was I prefered not to have peeling paint, I know I'm getting real picky. Most of the trucks I saw around Richmond, had significant rust issues or were just generally beat up. I stumbled across this one, and although I probably paid a little more than others may have paid, I got most of what I wanted. It looks ok, it runs ok and ahs everything that I wanted except the bucket seats; I can deal with that later. I don't have any real modification plans and will try to keep her generally stock. She's really going to be a road truck so there are some maintenance issues and comfort issues that need to be addressed but with the information on this site and your guidance she should be a fun ride for years to come. I'm having a hard time getting the bench seat locking mechanism to release so I can slide the seat back and forward. It seems like I am getting full travel on the release lever, but the cable is not moving the passenger side release enough. I'm guessing the cable has stetched over time and I do not see a way to adjust the tension. The cable is going through what looks like two hog rings on a bar at the back of the seat. ANy suggestions? Can the cable be tightened? Are replacement cables available? My two teenage girls are dying to drive this truck but nogo until they can adjust the seat properly. No pictures yet, waiting to wash it then shoot some. Was there something specific you wanted a shot off? Please don't tell my truck is stolen and it's really yours. As a follow up, The bulbs were fine. I wasn't able to get the lights out (chivken) so I just flipped the lens back and forth about 20 times each and they started working. Guess the contacts in the light housing are coroded, but they're good for now. Gavin

I'll call it the grill surround. It's that fiberglass panel in front of the hood and above the grill. On my 92 comanche it's cracked. What year cherokee panels can i use to replace it. I'm sure Jeep changed it sometime just have no idea when. Thanks, Gavin

Thanks for the cautions and guidance. The comanche is a 1992, 4.0L HO with automatic trans, 4WD, and Air conditioning. It is green with a biege interior and bench seat. I think it has been repainted some time in its life. The build date is 2/92. It has not been raised and is generally unmolested. I haven't measured the bed but I think it's a long bed. It has very little rust that I've found so far but I really haven't had a chance to pull the carpets yet. Looks solid from underneath. I don't know how much I'll actually get to use it since my two teenage daughters are already fighting over it. Gavin

New here and almost embarressed to ask this question since you all might question whether or not I should have a comanche. Is there a secret to geting to the light bulb on the interior post lights? I'm a little leary of prying on 20 year old platic lenses, but have to get some illumination in the cab.
