Belto
I know its not an MJ but would a 98 ZJ non 4x4 tranny bolt on to my 95 XJ 4x4?
JeepcoMJ
1. 4x4 and 2wd trannies have different output shafts, and tail housings. so, a 2wd can't be swapped with a 4x4 if you want to maintain 4x4. 2. the zj must have the same motor in order for this to work. Belto
so I can swap it but loose the 4x4? and yes it has the same motor
JeepcoMJ
so I can swap it but loose the 4x4? and yes it has the same motor technically you can, but you'll need a 2wd rear driveshaft. why do you want to get rid of the 4wd
Belto
I don't its just that my tranny died and well I can get a 37k miles tranny out of a friends wrecked ZJ for cheap and any other part that I want.. I don't really use the 4x4.. so IDK maybe is an option
Belto
also would the electrical connections work?
JeepcoMJ
should. but, i wouldn't bother. it's not worth it, it devalues your vehicle, and a rear driveshaft will cost you $100. you're better off spending that $$$ on a different tranny that's 4x4. Belto
would the ZJ rear driveshaft work on the xj?
JeepcoMJ
resounding no. buy a 4x4 trans, or buy a 2wd xj driveshaft. either way, you will be out more money than you want to. there's only one way to do it right...replace it with the same part.
