Fuel rail questions

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all,

Since my project has been at a standstill waiting on the long arm I ordered end of November I decided this week I'd take a look at the parts comanche and see if the engine runs. After battling no spark for a few days I have finally gotten it running, but only on starting fluid. The pump is dead since I have power all the way back to it. Since its a parts truck I'm not gonna put money into it just to hear it run for more than 30 seconds.

I had to change the fuel pump on my 99 2 door today (pump worked but no guage) which I felt gave me the perfect opportunity to make a fuel pump in a bucket.

To get to the point, I used the pump in a bucket and plugged into the rail but still have 0 pressure at the Schrader, as well as nothing coming out of the Schrader if I depress it. IE I'm still not getting fuel. I assume it has something to do the vacuum valve thingy, but since I know jack about renix I figure I should come here and ask. So I guess my question is, any idea why I'm still not getting fuel pressure when I'm providing fuel the way I am?

Edit: it is a possibility the lipo i used to power the pump wasnt fully charged. I have since re-wired it to run off the truck battery, but I'm done for the day and will test that tomorrow. I just wanted to get some feedback ahead of time.

Thanks in advance

On today's episode of I'm an idiot so don't do the things I do....

Being as i come from working on 99 xjs I consider this a logical yet stupid error. Apparently the fuel comes into the rail on the firewall side with renix. Yes you all know this and now so do i... so yeah no wonder I'm not getting any fuel pressure, when I'm trying to pump into the return side. I did think the connection looked rather weird but I have no experience on renix so I  just assumed things were different.

Oh well, the regulator is bad anyway as it pumps fuel out of the vacuum side when I hook things up correctly. Or so I assume. But yeah we see where assumptions have been getting me.

Welp, its a runner!! Fpr and a modified fp in a bucket (boat gas tank) while using an old pump and she started right up. Sounds good, high idle but I'm guessing that probably has something to do with vacuum leaks or maybe the fact the pump was putting out about 40 psi. Idk and idc because I just wanted to hear it run. It'll make a fine donor motor when that time comes.
