ax5 2wd to 4wd swap. couple questions?

Recommended Posts

ok got the transmission/tcase today!!

i pulled it from a 2.8. it has an external slave cylindar.

my ax5 has an internal. Is this easily swapable without changing my clutch?

also it has a np207 and i want to upgrade to a 231 but i am worried about input spline count. which 231 would be compatible with my ax5?

and if i keep the 207 is their a flange adapter to change that cv front drive shaft over to a regular driveshaft?

i am keeping the 207 to do a doubler someday as i have been reading up on it and it looks cheap to do!

any info people have would be awesome!

Changing to external slave is easy. It is just a brake line that connects from the master line to the slave.

231 should bolt right up the tranny as long they both are 21 spline. Make sure to check out the transfer case input length. If they arent the same it will leak out of the back of the tranny. I ran into this when I converted an 88 from a 2wd to 4wd. It turned into a PITA quick. You may have to swap the 207 input into the 231 at the most.

If you decide to leave the 207 you just have to swap on a regular front yoke on to it to put a regular style driveshaft in there.

Its all pretty much bolt in and not that hard to do at all. Good luck.
