braden_3
i have a 89 pioneer 2wd which i am in the process of gathering all parts to convert it to 4x4. i think the tranny is a ax-15 with the 2wd piece attached. instead of switching the entire tranny assembly for the ax-15/np231 setup i have (my ttanny has less miles and a new clutch) can't the transfercase just bolt up to my tranny now? Geonovast
Nope. The output shafts on 2wd and 4wd transmissions are different. A 2wd Transmission has the worm gear on it for the speedo on the OUtput shaft, whereas the 4wd one has them in the transfer case Output. I believe spline counts are also different, and lengths. Sorry but it's just not possible without swapping in a 4wd Output shaft, which you may as well rebuild since that would require dismantling the entire transmission. But after all that trouble, you're better off using the 4wd one.
