OME934 coils on stocker MJ...need to change much else?

Recommended Posts

Ok guys, while I have a tiny lift (~2") budget lift on my DD MJ currently, the 31" tires are rubbing too much for my liking...I have WJ LCAs and shocks that accommodate the small lift in the front.

I'm looking to get rid of the stock coils and 1.75" crappy spacer in there currently and replace them with some old man emu PN OME934 (for a WJ I believe)...

>>>Do I need to mess around with sway bar links, driveshaft, pitman arm, etc. when I slap the new springs (OME934) on? I hear they give about 2.5'-3.0" of lift...which is what I want, but don't want to run into other problems.<<<

Also, the very top rubber pieces that contact the frame and go directly above the coil....I believe they are called coil keepers, are totally wasted. Where do I get replacements...? And bumpstops? where do I get quality replacements for those?

Anything else I should swap out while I'm taking the coils out? :???:

Thanks!

This is similar to my setup. Expect 3" of lift with OME 934's and new coil isolators with a stock (no winch) MJ. You can get the isolators and bump stops at Quadratec and other places:  http://www.quadratec.com/products/56020_100.htm.

With 3" of lift your caster will become less positive, and you will need to add shims to the back of your LCAs to get it back to ~ +7.5*. Your WJ LCAs will be fine. You will also need an adjustable track bar (I did) to re-center the front axle. You shouldn't have to worry about anything else.

Thanks Hornbrod! Helpful as usual. . :MJ 1: .

Is there a thread that covers LCA shimming well...? Axle re-centering...? Maybe that's not a big deal...but, I don't want to botch it.

Will this set up still work if I'd like to get a bumper/winch some day, or will I be sagging in the front?

With a winch up front, you'll only get a 1/2" drop max with the OME coils. Unless you mount up  something like this:

Thanks again! VERY helpful :) And yeah, like the 'heavy front end' :) Prolly won't go that extreme...

Where can I find baseline/factory specs for steering specifically for our MJs? IE: where'd ya get the +7.5 DEG camber caster spec from....?

Thanks!
