ax-15 speedo drive gear

Recommended Posts

Good day everyone.  I am new to the site and am hoping someone can point me in the proper direction in regards to an AX-15 5 speed I am working on for a customer.

The transmission is actually in a 1968 Dart and was installed by the previous owner.  Unfortunately he/she didn't hook up the speedometer.  Now the present owner (my customer) would like the factory speedo to work.  From what I understand a speedometer pinion from a Torqueflite will work, but unfortunately there is no drive gear on the output shaft of the AX-15 to drive the speedo pinion and cable.  I tracked down a place in Minnesota that sent me a gear, 2 snap rings and ball bearing.  But it is actually too small. The gears inside diameter is approx. 1.103, and the output shaft diameter is 1.200.  The nice gentleman in Minnesota claims he sent me the larger of the 2 types of drive gears that were produced.  Anybody have an idea what my options are, or can tell me if  there was a similar (AX-15) transmission that had a larger diameter output shaft?  I did find a replacement part number for the gear but it is a discontinued item from Chrysler.

I can't believe there isn't any old stock for this item, and the customer would really like to know how fast he's driving.  Any help you can offer would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks everyone!
