My First Comanche 88 Pioneer

Recommended Posts

I have been lurking around here for the last few weeks gathering info and reading other people's projects and I figured it's a good time to show off my comanche.

it's an 88 with the 4.0 and a 5 speed trans.  Previous owner installed a new clutch, replaced the transmission, installed a new glass pack exhaust from the manifold to the tail pipe, new clutch slave and master, rebuilt the front diff, patched the body, and got a fresh inspection sticker.  He did all of this work to give it to his son to drive and it turns out the kid wants a sports car (?).

So far the only things that needed fixed on it was the Crank Position Sensor and a leak on the fuel pump assembly tube.

My plains are to use it through the winter as my work commuter while I install the solid axles in my eagle and then finish the bodywork and paint it in the spring and take it to the various AMC car shows I attend in the summer months

Cool, looks like a solid MJ. I think that kid needs a good smack, though. What transmission did the PO put in?

the guy put another AX-5 in it and gave me the 2 boxes of parts that was the original AX-5,  it is really solid with the exception of the drivers side floor pan patch that is pretty common with jeeps in these parts

Welcome to the club!!! nice looking comanche. Sounds like a good one.

I see we have another AMC fan?????

yeah I have been bitten by the AMC bug pretty bad.  I like the final generation of AMCs so I have/had a good collection of eagles.  right now I have the 80 2 door that is in the picture with my MJ and I have a 81 kammback that is sitting in my storage unit that needs some restoration, but I pretty much have lost interest in the 81 so it's been for sale for the last few months waiting for the right buyer who has intentions of getting the car back on the road
