Help Id Junkyard Lift Kits

Recommended Posts

Hi, sorry for the newbie question but I have not been able to find an answer so far. What I'm trying to do is see how to tell how what size lift kit is on something for a junkyard as I was just at the junkyard searching for anything I could find and found two mj's and they both look like they have lifts but I can't tell. I also saw a few xj's that look to have some serious lifts. Just trying to see what I might be able to grab for a cheap lift.

There are several things to look for as clues. I look for aftermarket control arms and to see if the track bar has been relocated or is adjustable. Sometimes on xj they have lift blocks on the rear, those are no good for the mj but when you see that you know something has probably been done to the front. You may also find part number or tags that you can recognize the name on. I found an mj with a skyjacker lift and got the part number off the track bar relocation bracket. When I called sky jacker they told me the bracket was for a 3" lift. Be careful when looking because when the trucks are up on stands the suspension is dropped and it looks tall even though its probably stock, also if the engine is out the front is up higher than normal as well.

Ok cool thank you at least that gives me somewhere to start. The yard i go to has them all on block but what caught my attention was the skyjacker shocks and the leafs looked bigger then mine. Sadly the springs were all rusty so I couldn't tell anything about them. I'm not looking to go big just like 3-4.5. Might try to go out tomorrow if the rains not to bad lol.
