Twisty
So i'm willing to bet that the long bed MJ's gas tank is pretty vulnerable to rocks and such when wheeling. has anyone made a skid plate for it? Ideally, i would like to relocate the tank into the bed...but i just can't do it at this time. I'm wondering if anyone has made a skid, and if you have, could you post pics so I can get an idea of what i need to do? Thanks
JeepcoMJ
take a shortbed skid plate and lengthen it out. they're pretty darn tough and pretty cool. they cover from front to back, not sides. but it would be easy to add to the sides.

JeepcoMJ
I have one, I will take a picture of it and post it tomorrow (later today). they're quite bulky and heavy, but they do the job.
Twisty
i'll probobly start to call junkyards around me to see if i can find one locally. thanks for the help! and if you could...i would love to see a pic.
JeepcoMJ
here ya go. lengthen it out a couple inches and maybe alter the height as needed. I think It would be just what you need as a base to make your skid plate...it will be much stronger than the cheapo ones jeep put on the longbeds
dakal
on the buggies we use thin alumium sheet. we go to the steel junk yard and find 4x8 or 4x10 sheets. bend it up, good to go.
JeepcoMJ
why would you make a skid plate out of something thin? isn't the point to NOT bend and offer protection?
dakal
1/4 in, 5/16, 3/8. whatever is available. rock climbing i would make something stronger, but for buggy racing or in my case, prerunning it works great, and is light weight. 8)
