airspeed
Cleaning out the folks house I ended up with the Winchester Mod70. Beautiful old gun that has only been shot about a dozen times in it's life. My dad bought this gun around ~1949-50. The most unusaual thing are the Stith mounts with 3 rings. I can't find any information on these rings, they appear to have some type of elevation adjustment for the scope. The center ring applies some type of prelaod to the barrel of the scope, you can see an adjustable thumb wheel that applies pressure to the spring tab. The scope is a Weaver 2.5x. See photo. sinkrun
I think they were made for use with the scopes that have no adjustments on the scope lyman made them along with others maybe weatherby can't recall at this time. They could be used with a regular scope like the weaver thats sitting on it. Nice old gun for sure what caliber is it?
airspeed
Now that you mentioned it the rear adjustment has a rotation arrow with the letter L and the front shows a rotation with the letter U. I still don't understand the center ring? The caliber is 30-06.
danbyrambler
Stith Master Mount - - - - MM & other Stith stuff on & off eBay regularly - - -All the time at any sizeable gun show - - - MM instructions reprint & original on ebay now - - - I think center ring/spring was return to zero feature for off/on - - - - - -NIB MM sold on eB ay awhile back - - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stith-Master-Mount-Winchester-Model-70-54-/120985400393?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c2b4ab449&nma=true&si=u8eftOroj7MaWDktBqiG%2BdttVcU%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 - - - - These mounts don't add much value to the rifle but they are an indicator that the receiver hasn't been tapped, which adds a bunch to it's already considerable worth - - - - Could very well be prewar if purchased used circa 49-50 & the $$$ goes up a bunch - - - Easy enough to Google the SN for the mfg date -
