Basics

  • 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4 with 4.0L I6, auto, 231 transfer case
  • 195K miles
  • Power windows, locks, mirrors, cruise control

Items replaced in the last 1K miles

  • (2) brand new tires (also have (2) brand new matching that go with the truck)
  • All (4) front ball joints
  • All tie rod ends
  • Front brake pads, rotors, and calipers

Items replaced in the last 15K miles

  • Rear brake shoes, drums, pistons
  • Windshield
  • Transmission mount

Other items replaced

  • The original engine developed rod knock. An engine from a 1998 (with stronger head casting) was installed. Donor engine had ~150K miles and the XJ had roughly the same mileage at the time of the swap. Adapter plate was used to go from older-style head ports to new style, two-piece, cast exhaust manifold.
  • Motor mounts
  • Valve cover, oil pan, oil filter gaskets
  • Rear main seal
  • All (4) oxygen sensors replaced
  • All (6) fuel injectors replaced with Ford Mustang injectors (supposed to increase fuel mileage, but I did not see any gain/loss)

Known Issues

  • Sagging headliner
  • Dent by gas filler
  • Dings/dents around exterior
  • Transfer case chain needs to be replaced. TC will clunk when you mash the accelerator while rolling
  • Rear window washer motor inoperable. Rear window wiper works fine
  • Leather on steering wheel has a wear hole at the 12 o'clock position
  • Fuel pressure regulator bleeds down quickly causing a long crank/slow start condition. Cycling the key on/off twice allows the system to build pressure & eliminates this problem

Reason for Selling

The vehicle is still titled (clear title) and tagged in NJ. To transfer it to a Maryland registration, I will have to go through the MD inspection process. Maryland has some pretty stringent emissions/safety inspections and I will fail for many of the above known issues (even the hole in the leather on the steering wheel). Any vehicle over 20+ years I can bypass the inspection all together. I am looking to do a diesel conversion on an MJ and thought about doing it to my '92, but I can't bring myself to yank a drivetrain out of a vehicle that has zero issues. Plus, I'd like to keep the '92 as close to original as possible. This XJ served as my DD for several years and it never let me down once. I did many long-distance excursions for my old job and it always got me from point A to point B.

Price

  • $3,500 OBO
  • Trade for a rust-free MJ. Ideally, I'd like to do the trade. I'm looking for a shell to do a diesel conversion on. Can be running or not - show me what you've got.

The only pictures I have at the moment are ones I found on my Photobucket account. I will be able to take more as time permits:
