Are ther any markings on the motor that would indicate the proper rod bearing size?

Yes there is. However it only applies to motors as they are installed at the factory. You don't know if the motor has been worked on or not or if the crank has been turned by a PO. Remove a rod cap and look for marks on the underside of the bearing shell. This will tell you what they are. However it does not allow for wear on the journal. Measure them.
