DodgeFan01
Hey guys, I was redoing the drum brakes on my 88 manche and when I pulled the drum off the drivers side I noticed gear grease all over, it is obvious that the axle seal is done. I looked it up in my manual and it says I just need to undo the 4 bolts holding on the backer plate and then attach a slide hammer and go after it. It is a 2 wheel drive 4 banger manual 4 speed, so I'm guessing I have the 35 rear? Anyway, I'm just trying to figure out what I'm in for as I have never pulled an axle shaft before, any advise will help. So there's no clip inside the pumpkin on the shaft? If I get it pulled, should I replace the bearing as well? Should I do both sides? The passengers side looks good, no sign of leakage but I don't know if it's better to do them both at the same time. Thanks for listening, Adam
64 Cheyenne
For your particular year there is no C-clip. Would I replace bearings or anything else? No Myself, I'd fix the seal, fill with oil, wait for it to break again. Or D44, 8.25, 8.8....you get the idea.
DodgeFan01
Cool, then I guess the old Chiltons was right. That should be easy enough. Thanks Cheyenne
