tj21
My emergency brake works if I push in on the pedal, but it does not click and stay in place, so I have to park against a curb or use a block on a hill. I'm not sure where to start with this. Which part could be broken? Can I buy new? All the Cherokees in my junkyard have hand brakes, so they won't do me any good. Automan2164
Unfortuneatly, this is one of those cursed MJ parts. If I remember correct, the teeth that "ratchet" grind down, and will no longer hold it. The only fix is to replace the assembly. The only problem with that is they no longer make the assembly. Best thing would be to junkyard pick one yourself, or post up in our wanted section to see if there is a member with a good extra. Rob L.
dasbulliwagen
If youre a handy person, you could make one from a YJ Jeep Wrangler work... its a very similar setup, and same era too. The dealer still has them new as it was part of a recall, and I bet youd find several at the junkyard.
