phenryiv1
I am making the necessary mods to my 88 to use a 91+ grille and headlight doors (and yes, I am writing a how-to with lots of pictues). Before I install them permanently, I want to paint the parts, but they potentially have wax or grease on them. What can I use to prep the plastic that will not harm the plastic but that will promote good adhesion and an even coverage coat?
jbhill
i always wash plastic stuff with dish soap and a grey scuff pad if I'm going to paint it. cleans and lightly sands it. b4 i spray on plastic adhesion promotor, i clean it with wax and grease remover. brdhntr
:agree: i recommend dawn dish soap to remove wax and wax build up. use a scotch brite pad to scrub it. when done, wipe it with rubbing alcohol (cheap). make sure you apply a plastic adhesion promoter. then paint it. with plastic, it's best to paint in lite coats. then apply the next coat when the previous is still a little tacky. when done, let it dry then sit in the sun for several days to bake it on. the paint will stick better and last longer.
