  1. Well about a year ago or so I changed out the fuel pump with a shucks carter pump and I just checked the fuel pressure at idle and it is only 25 psi. umm I don't think that is good. :hmm:
  2. I have a 88 comanche 4.0l 5 speed. When I get around 2000 rpms the engine wants to stumble specially on the freeway in 5th gear once I get between 60-65 it wants to stumble pretty good but if I go under 60 its fine or over 65. Need help... :hmm:
  3. Well I think my throttle cable might be sticking. When I was driving home the other day on the freeway I took my foot off the gas and the truck kept maintaining speed. Well I don't have cruise control. So I don't know if thats an issue with the pedal or the linkage or what? :hmm:
  4. The first start is usually always good. But after that like around town it wants sometimes to go to like almost 3000 rpms when I go to start it and I have to shut it down then restart then it goes away. Its a very intermittent thing. 1988 comanche 4.0 5 speed manual i replaced the egr, injectors, plugs, cap. TPS and ICU about a year old now both are neighoffs. I replaced the cps as well. In fact I have replaced everything but the computer and the map sensor.
  5. I have a 88 comanche 2wd non tilt steering column I broke the steering column down to the lock cyylinder. There is like 4 bolts that hold the shroud on there small like 5/16 I think does anyone know the torque to those? I noticed if I make them to tight then I cannot turn the key to start and its real hard to turn at all unless I back them off.
  6. Did comanche ever make popout winged windows or was that cherokee only?
  7. No, I didn't try the smaller wire Ill give that a shot and take off my tb and clean that. Thanks.
  8. Well replaced the negative cable cleaned the connections and still same issue. I guess ill try the map sensor and since the computer is using preset values and it runs like crap cold Ill replace the computer it must be shot.
  9. Yes I did change the o2 sensor. But Ill have to take a look at the negative cable. Thanks for the help hopefully thats it.
  10. If the timing is computer controlled and the computer does nothing when the engine is cold (open loop mode) then what controls the timing until the truck warms up and all the electronics kick in? My 88 manche 5speed 4.0L wants to stall when you hit the gas when its cold once it warms up runs like off the lot. Fuel injectors been replaced. Most all sensors been replaced except the map. New plugs, new cap, new wires, burns and uses no oil. I checked the cat looks clean. I can't seem to track it down. Maybe its one of those things with age.
  11. Well the coworker I bought the truck from replaced the clutch with one of those cheap o china plastic ones twice and realized they don't work. So he bought a expensive metal replacement at a performance shop. I believe he said he replaced the throwout bearing as well I can't remember going to check. But I know he didn't do anything with the flywheel. Funny though once it warms up it shifts great but cold not so good in the first gear.
  12. Yeah thats what I was thinking is it needs to be pulled for a rebuild. I checked the fluids and there full and I am almost certain thats a new throwout bearing ill check though. Thanks for the responses. 8)
  13. yeah the motor is running. I notice it when I am idling like in a fast food line you'll hear this turning noise in neutral. Then when I push the clutch in the noise goes away until I let it back up. So then he didn't put the throwout bearing in correctly or you just think it needs replacement??
  14. I bought the truck from a friend and he won't be back for a few weeks but I thought he said he replaced that but maybe not. When the truck is in nutrel and you push the clutch pedal down and let it back up you can hear a turning noise? Maybe thats it?
  15. Taking off in 1st gear when the truck is cold is jerky no matter how well I shift. Then sometimes when I am coasting slow to a stop sign and I go to put it in first gear it grinds. But it only does this when its cold once she warms up shifts great. I have a 2 wd 5 speed 88 comanche 4.0. She has the ba 10/5. Is this normal for this tranny??? The clutch is pretty new and its not one of those cheap china plastic ones.
  16. Found it on this website http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Sus ... Ratios.htm Great resource for anyone who is wondering what they got. looked up my part# 8953004770 ‘87-89 Comanche 35 3.08 NL
  17. I have a dana axel 35 in my 88 2wd jeep comanche 5 speed. I am changing out the fluid and was wondering if it needs any limited slip additive or just the oil?? I have the cover off right now. But don't really know what I am looking for to be able to tell the difference.
  18. Yeah thats got to be it makes sense now. Thats really the only point to where the wipers and the blower relate. And the last few days the ignition has been sticking as I turn the key. I put some wd 40 in there hopefully that does the trick. Thanks for the help.
  19. here's a weird one I went outside to warm the truck up and when I came back out to leave for work I had no power to the heater/ac controls so I figured the blower went out. So I went to turn on the windshield wipers and no wipers at all but the lights and everything else worked. Then I go out the next day to check the fuses and now the heater and windshield wipers work fine??? No problems since. I'm lost on this one. 88 jeep comance 2wd 4.0 manual
  20. fuel filter is also brand new. Yeah the regulator is not adjustable. This is the third pump I'm on from shucks a carter/bosch. The first pump last a month the second one never worked and this is now the third one from them.
  21. Connected a fuel pressure tester up to my rail. With the key on no engine start the pressure was about 33 psi when I started the engine the psi went down to 27 psi and with the vacuum hose off the regulator the pressure went up to 34 psi. The pump and regulator are brand new. The orings on the injectors look bad though and it looks like theres three different color rings around the injectors so I wonder if thats the problem??? 88 Jeep comanche 2wd 5 speed 4.0 engine The manual says 31 psi with engine running and with vac hose off 39 psi so definitely below specs. And the performance shows it.
  22. Well possibly maybe the fuel pump relay. I can get it to start by double priming it. I wonder if it could be the fuel pressure regulator but if the pump is making a weaker weird noise I would think it would be the pump. Really strange but once I get it started it runs when its cold if I hit the gas it wants to stall but once it warms up that goes away so I don't know.
  23. I went to start my 88 comanche the other day and it would crank but would not start. I listened for the fuel pump which was making this like fizzle noise. It use to make a loud whirr noise. So I jumpered the ballast resistor and it makes a half fizzle noise and half whirr noise and for longer then before I jumpered it. I just replaced the pump a month or two ago with the carter/bosch off of partsamerica. :???:
  24. I have an 88 jeep comanche 2wd 5 speed straight six. Does anyone know the typical miles per gallon these trucks get?
  25. Ok Ill check the injectors I recently replaced the two injectors closest to the radiator because they were leaking. So Ill take a look at the others. thanks
