87.Paid $1200.Pics as I go..I'm trying to figure out how to use this site.I have a bunch of pics to post if I can figure this out.
I bought this lil truck several months ago because I've always liked these lil trucks and realize they are getting scarce.
It's a 2wd and had a 4 banger. It was 3 or 4 different colors too.Texas truck so no rust except minor floorboard. It needed some bodywork so I figured I'd give it a try.I'm no bodyman.Did the best I could and grabbed the cupgun and compressor.A gallon of Rust Oleum black and went to town.Decent paintjob for a rookie and Rust oleum.
Decided to put on a Rough Country 3" lift,2" wheel spacers and some bigger rubbers.
Drove the Comanche with the 4 banger around town for a few months and was ok with the extreme lack of power due to getting around 25 mpg.
Took her on her first road trip to Austin Texas to do a job.Normally a 3 hour trip from where I live but took 4 because of struggling to climb the hills on the way.Floorboard the whole way there and back.We got passed by a Prius going up a hill maxed out at 54 mph in a 70 zone.Last straw!!
I had a 20' boat with a 4.3 Chevy at my shop with very low hours on it.Did research on a swap and decided to go ahead with the project. If you know anything about marine motors you know that they are overbuilt to run full speed at all times.Steel crank.forged pistons and rods, huge intake and exhaust ports, roller motor putting out 224 horses. This little truck screams now and will catch a mean second with a stock 700R4.After I did the swap I trailered it to the local muffler shop and had straight dual exhaust with glasspacks installed. It sounds real tough, like a V8 with a cam.
I'm currently building a new shop and will build a paint booth in it.I will do a ground up resto on the truck.Strip it down to bare metal and do the bodywork right.
I bought 4x4 running gear from my stepson that came from a 90 Cherokee. To me it ain't a real jeep if it ain't 4wd.
Will post pics of all the progress to date when I can figure it out. With 3" lift.
