  1. MJ, Thanks for the timely reply. So am I better off to buy the clutch master/slave assembly, or just a replacement master? MarkB...
  2. Hi Everyone, Earlier this year I replaced the BA10/5 in my Comanche with an AX15 and a newer bell-housing with external slave cylinder. The bell-housing and throw-out lever are used, the slave cylinder and clutch are new. Though I paid to have the clutch master cylinder replaced, I suspect it is original and used. I notice when shifting that I always seem to catch a tooth as I upshift, as if the clutch is not completely disengaging. I checked the fluid level in the master on Saturday and the level appeared correct. Yesterday I drove to work no problem but this morning I was having difficulty upshifting. I also noticed that when I got in the parking lot the clutch seemed to want to hold the vehicle against a downhill coast, if that makes sense. The work was done back in the Spring of this year and I've had no problem until this morning. If I'm not dealing with a fluid leak what should I be looking for? I suspect the master cylinder is the culprit, but I'm not sure. What say all of you? MarkB... Bold Springs, GA. 1988 Jeep Comanche 1983 Jeep Cherokee SJ (Big White Jeep)
  3. Hi Everybody, I've read several posts regarding turn signal problems, but none like mine, so here goes. Mine turn signals worked one day and didn't the next. All of the bulbs have been checked and are good. The failure mode is as follows: The turn signal switch doesn't work, no right or left turn signal. If you press the brake pedal, both turn signal indicators on dash light up as do the turn signal lamps front and rear. I assume this to be a failure of the turn signal switch? Has anyone else had this problem and solved it? What's interesting is that according to the wiring diagram, there is no common power connection between the brake lamps and turn signal lamps. What I'm witnessing shouldn't be possible. Another one of life's great mysteries I guess. Thanks in advance for your replies. MarkB...
  4. Hi Everybody, I'd like to revisit this topic for a minute or two. I posted this almost a year ago and procrastinator that I am I haven't done the swap. Well the BA10 in the Comanche has gone to a better place and so I can't put it off any longer. I have a few "other" questions related to the swap. I'll probably buy an AX15 and bell housing off the bay. I've checked locally and there seem to be none available. For clarification, my truck is a 1988, 2wd, Comanche. So here are the questions: 1. Which year AX15's can be used with a speedo cable? 2. I plan to use a bell housing with external slave cylinder. Any year or model restrictions there? 3. Does the input spline count on the AX15 differ from the BA10? 4. On the two wheel drive tranny, does the output spline count differ? Thanks again for your comments. MarkB...
  5. Thanks to all for your replies to date. My MJ is equipped with a 4.0L six, an amazing engine. I have always liked straight six cylinder engines. I learned to drive in a 50' model Chevy truck with a 235 six. Why Detroit discontinued the straight six is beyond me. Too reliable and durable i suppose? But I digress. Questions: Can the existing clutch master cylinder be used with the MX slave cylinder? Regarding the clutch, Is the input shaft spline count the same on both tranny's? Any issues with connection of the speedo cable to the tranny? Lots-O-Knowledge here, I'm glad I'm a member. MarkB...
  6. Hi Everyone, I almost hate to ask, but I've used the search tool and cannot find what I'm looking for. I plan to swap the Peugeot 5 speed in my 88 MJ for an AX15. The truck is two wheel drive and will remain so. What parts do I need to perform the swap and what donor vehicles should I be looking for? Thanks in advance for your replies. MarkB...
  7. Hi Everyone, I own an 88' Comanche, 4.0L with the Peugeot 5 speed. The truck has about 195K on it. Most the time, the tranny shifts exactly as you would expect an old tranny to shift, kind of sloppy, kind of worn, but it shifts without difficulty. On occasion, this transmission becomes very difficult to shift, as if something is out of alignment in the tranny, but then after a few days the problem will go away and the tranny again becomes easy to shift. I'm no transmission expert, but it seems to me that the problem may be other than the tranny. What else should I be looking at? While on the subject. I know this tranny is considered unsuitable for rebuilding, but are rebuild parts available? Other than the shift issue, this tranny has served me well until now. Thanks in advance for your replies. 8. Hi Everyone, My 88' Comanche has a pop-up sunroof that's leaking around the weatherstrip. I'm curious if it's factory installed or aftermarket and whether a replacement weatherstrip is available? Mark B...
