  1. Hey guys, I recently bought a new daily driver and I don't really need the comanche any more, but instead of selling it I thought about making it an offroad only buggy. Take the box off, Maybe a cage, eventually bigger tires. I've never really seen anything like this, has anyone done it or have any pics of it? I'd like to do a SOA in the rear but then what needs to be done at the front? The truck already has a 4" lift on it with 31s. I know a guy that has some 37s for really cheap, but I'm going to need a new axle before that happens. Thanks
  2. It doesn't seem like there is something staying on draining the battery because I went to mexico for a week and it still started fine when I got back. It seems like it just dies from starting and then for whatever reason it isn't charging.
  3. Ok so I tried testing everything, hardly any drain on the battery when nothing is on so there isn't anything on that could be draining it. Output on the alt is good, I put my practically brand new battery from my other car in it to see if that would help but no, I had to jump it today to get home. I have no idea what could be causing this, any other suggestions? Thanks
  4. Yep, did the load test. Thanks for that link, I'll try doing that today.
  5. Hey guys, I have a 2.5L, its not stock in my truck, the PO says it was replaced from a cherokee, didn't know the year though. Anyways my battery recently started going dead so I replaced the alternator and now it still didn't seem to stay charged so I took the alternator back and got a new one and It still goes dead. I checked the output on the alternator and it seemed to be working fine but the battery just doesnt seem to last long until I have to charge it again. I also tested the battery and it is good. Is there anywhere I should check for a power drain? I can't find any lights that don't turn off, not sure what else it could be, any tips?
  6. I have recently started being able to smell oil in my truck for some reason, I occasionally got a smell of it before but when i was driving home today it smelled really strong and I could smell it the whole way home. Engine oil is still full, any ideas on what is causing this? Thanks
  7. Well sorry if I offended anyone by not following directions but I would rather bring the truck home and fix whatever is needed instead of trying to do it on the side of the road. 10 seconds might have been an exaggeration but it's not like I drove it home or revved it up really high, just pulled it onto the trailer because I didn't have a come-along with me. I'm not really all that worried about something to happen to the engine because that's just an excuse for a bigger one.
  8. I just started it to get it on to the trailer so I could get it home and do everything else that needed to be done. Only ran it for about 10 seconds.
  9. We took the plugs out and turned it over and then tried starting it, and she ran perfect. I decided I should still trailer it home because there was water in the oil and it was about a 30min drive. Here's the oil that came out. Got some fresh oil, new filter, plugs and air cleaner.
  10. Ok I'll check tomorrow, what if there is water in it?
  11. It didn't look like it was that deep but I guess I was wrong  I got stuck about half way through it and it pretty much stalled right away. We pulled it out and tried turning it over but nothing happened, after letting it dry for half an hour it would turn over but still won't start. We towed it out to the road but it was getting dark and we didn't bring much tools or anything so it's still sitting there now. I'll go back tomorrow and either try and get it running or trailer it home, any recommendations on what to do when I get out there tomorrow? I don't really know where so start with this. Thanks
  12. Swapped the flashers and now they work. The hazards still seem to work too somehow?
  13. So on my 87 comanche the signals don't seem to be working, I checked the fuse and it was good. The 4 way flashers work and the indicator on the dash works when they are on. When the signal is activated nothing happens and the lights on the dash don't come on either? What could that be? Hopefully get some answers soon so I can fix it tomorrow and have it slightly more street legal. Thanks
  14. Well it seems like the balancing fixed it. Got it going 70km down my road today, started feeling a bit shaky but I couldnt go faster because the road isn't long enough and I don't want to go too far away without insurance.
  15. What do I do to check the ball joints? I'm in Nanoose bay, near Nanaimo.
  16. Yeah, I saw that when I took the wheels off. Turns out there was a lot of mud in there and a bunch of rocks, here is one of the bigger ones I pulled out Seems like it would throw off the balance quite a bit, I'm still going to take them in for balancing tomorrow but hopefully that fixed it.
  17. Turns our it was the swaybar that was loose and clunking, we fixed the bracket and no more clunks. But still have the wobble. The thing is I don't have to come to a stop for the wobbles to stop like what I have heard you have to do with death wobble. It starts at 60 and once you go back below 60 it stops. It seems like more than the vibration you get from unbalanced wheels though. I found this nut was not even finger tight Is there some kind of spacers that goes in between the castle but there? Because the cotter pin is too low to go through the notches of the Nut. Thanks
  18. I'm on Vancouver Island. I just have the gas tank strapped in the box for now. I gotta figure out some way to mount it underneath.
  19. Changed the oil and did a little 4x4ing. I noticed something making a knocking sound up front so I got out and checked and one of the bars up front was loose, so that could be the cause of the dw. I also found out I have no reverse in 4wd, when I got to put it in reverse it just grinds and doesnt stay in. Any Idea what causes that? here's a pic of it getting out to some logging roads
  20. Went for a drive down the road and just about 60km/h it starts shaking like crazy so I'm guessing it's the death wobble
  21. Not sure about the running gear and rear end. I'm guessing its stock but I'm not sure. Interior is a bit messy, dash is off and theres alot of dirt, parts and garbage in it but it seems to be complete. If I can mount the gas tank tomorrow I'll go for a rip and see how the front end is. Not sure about the paintjob, It will be mostly a bush truck and I already have too many other projects before I would be able to get around to that.
  22. Well, I got it. The body doesnt look great, got some pretty big dents in it. The floor seems solid. Engine runs great. The fuel tank he had for it wasnt installed and isnt the stock tank. Apparently it is smaller than the stock one so I need to make some sort of mounts for it. Or just mount it in the back, seems a lot easier. Anyways It is too dark to see what I'm dealing with right now, I'll take a look up there tomorrow.
  23. Hey, guys. Just made this account because I am going to pick up a comanche tomorrow. Its an 87 with 4inch lift and 31s. I am told it runs but needs the gas tank to be mounted. Apparently the front end gets shaky at around 75km/h, I think thats about 50mph. I am buying the truck for using mostly offroad but I may insure it for a winter driver since it is 4wd. Is this an easy/ cheap fix or should I just live with it and go slow? I was also wondering what kinds of things I should look out for before I buy it. He says the windshield has a pretty big crack in it, I think most parts are the same as a cherokee, are the windshields the same? Thanks guys, will post pictures of it tomorrow
