  1. Alright guy's thanks for the input. The internet consensus seems to be flowmaster 40 series muffler for cherokee/comanche. Flowmasters definitely sound nice, just thought it might be a little loud for my liking. I think a good cat might quieten it up a little. Ill look into thrush welding, new to me.
  2. I'm going to be putting in new exhaust shortly and I have a few options. A friend of mine is going to fab me the pipes out of stainless, depending on the condition of the cat I may or may not keep it in. Eventually I would like to put a cold air intake in and possibly headers, just not at the moment due to cash limitations. My buddy said to search around and let him know what I'm looking for. He suggested either a magnaflow or a flowmaster for the muffler. I listened to both online and am leaning towards the Magnaflow. I don't want a really loud exhaust system, just needs to sound quality. The magnaflow had a nice deep rumble to it, sounded nice. So assuming you were looking to for quieter, quality exhaust system that wouldn't break the bank, what would you go with? Muffler, Cat, and what diameter pipe would you go with? Any tips or special comanche considerations would be most appreciated. Thanks.
  3. Thanks for that link Don, I really like that canopy as well. I am going to PM GJEEP and see if I can't get some information on who made it. I also didn't mind the A.R.E one either. I'll probably look into them as well. And I think I will wait to find one that fits well. I don't mind paying a little extra to get one that fits properly. It will probably be on the truck for another 20 years and I don't plan on selling it any time soom. There is a good number of companies around the area that sell used canopies so I will make the rounds there as well. It just seems a little tricky finding long box canopies for the truck. Seems like most of the ones out there fit the six foot box. And it's funny, I have only heard of them refered to as canopies... Thanks for the help, Ryan
  4. Thanks, I actually don't mind that the height is a little low. Ideally it would sit flush but I plan on putting a roof rack on top so it might not be all that noticible. Thanks, I will keep my eyes open for one.
  5. Hello, I would like to replace the canopy is currently on my truck. It is the older style with a raised top and rough textured white fiberglass. Its cracked, leaks and has become a little moldy in the window tracks. I want to keep a canopy on it as I camp lots and its nice to be able to lock up my gear. I am wondering if anyone has found canopies off newer truck models that fit the long box. I would like to find a canopy that has a flat roof that sits level with the top of the cab and has a profile that looks like it was made for the truck. The newer canopies also seem to have a smooth paintable finish that would be nice. I saw a craigslist add for someone selling a 7/FT canopy off a 2005 Ranger long box that sold before I could take a look at it to see if it would fit. It looked exactly like what I'm looking for. If anyone can let me know of any newer truck models that I could pull a canopy off would be much appreciated. Thanks, Ryan
  6. Awesome! Thanks so much for taking the time to post all the info and pics, all of you. I will be taking note of these companies and putting a lift together. Its scary placing orders worth almost $1000 dollars when your only options are questionable companies. You guys have eased my mind a little. I am now thinking of going new Metric Ton Leafs and tera-flex shackles for the rear, BDS 3" coils for the front, BDS shocks, Track bar, LC Arms etc from Hells creek with the MT Leafs order. I'm exited, feeling confident this is a good way to go. For shocks I have heard good things about Blisteen. Any one feel strongly about them over BDS? Thanks, Ryan
  7. Alright thanks for the input. I have a bit of time to save up and do some research. After talking to some people on here is sounds like add-a-leafs really are not a good option. I have heard good things about BDS, but the comanche kit is an add a leaf none the less. I really just need to be able to fit my 31"s on the truck. It was suggested that buying new New Metric Ton leaf springs and adding the teraflex shackles I should be able to achieve the lift I need in the rear and avoid using add-a-leafs. Anyway, when i do purchase a lift and have a good experience I'll try and post about it. You really only hear about the bad experiences.
  8. Alright, measured the rear lift as per the link below and it appears I am sitting a hair over 8", a little off the 9.2" it should have sat at new. Looks like I lost some lift over the years. Hmmmm. Also If the new Metric Ton springs from Hells Creek can net 2-2.5" over stock springs, would that mean my truck came stock sitting @ 11.2 - 11.5 stock? Did I actually lose 3" of lift? Or did adding the MT springs get you 2-2.5" lift on top of the height your truck sat was sitting at with the stock sagged springs? I'm probably confused... :fool: Sorry
  9. Alright, thanks for the info. Thats interesting, I wonder if my truck is already sitting higher than stock in the rear. Is there a way to test how much sag is in the leafs at the moment? The truck has never been a work truck, old man driven, but it is 23 years old. I talked to a local spring company and they said they will re-pack the the Metric Ton leafs and net me 3" additional lift. If I bring them in it is 125 per pack. It sounds like they will add-a-leaf, re-pack them, and re-press the springs. Is them re-packing it better then me adding a leaf? Has anyone gone this route?
  10. So I have been looking at putting a 3" lift kit on my 89 Metric Ton 4X4. I ordered a Motion Offroad kit, waited a few months, found out they went bust. Terrible experience. Visa will bail me out but the lost time and lies from Motion really chapped my @$$. I didn't thoroughly check into the company before buying, paid the price. After looking into the companies that sell lifts and components it seems they are all a little questionable. Rough Country, Rocky Road, Rusty's, Hells Creek, seems like people have negative/possitive things to say about all of them. Some worse than others but it's a big purchase, been burned once, would like to have the next purchase go smoother when I'm ready to buy. Here are the kits I'm looking at, if they don't have track bars, sway bar links or control arms I will be buying those too: Rusty's 3" Lift: http://www.rustysoffroad.com/jeep-suspe ... f-kit.html Rough Country 3" Lift: http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_mj_3.html Hells Creek 3" Lift: http://www.hellcreeksuspensions.com/ Can't link to the kit but it's the 3" coils and add-a-leaf Old Man Emu Kit: (Rocky Road has best prices) OME coils, shocks, Rough Country add-a-leafs, misc parts to complete lift. http://www.rocky-road.com/xjome.html BDS 3" Comanche lift: (Most complete kit, not much info about company reviews) http://bds-suspension.com/product?kid=440H So what do you all think? I know add-a-leafs arn't ideal but this is a daily driver that will not be seeing serious off roading, logging roads and getting into camp/fishing spots only. I just want a reliable lift, timely delivery, and decent customer service... Too much to ask for? Thanks for the input, Ryan.
  11. Nice! Looks awesome
  12. I have the 2 thick bottom + 3 thin on top. I really don't like the idea of add-a-leafs either but I really only want 3" of lift. This is a daily driver and I already have the rims and 31" tires I will be putting onto it. SOA would be the way to go but I would have to run 33"s and the gas millage would make it to pricey to commute and camp in. It seems like add-a-leafs are the only way to accomplish this. I could buy a new set of rear spring packs but then It wouldn't be metric ton. I camp a-lot and bring quite a bit of weight with me. I feel much more comfortable having the overload springs in there. So it it's tough call. This whole process has been crazy. I waited months on a Motion offroad lift only to find out they went bust... Seems like every company that has Comanche lifts has a questionable reputation. Rough country, Rocky Road, Rusty's, hells creek. I'm trying to be dilligent with my next buy but it dosn't seem like any one company is solid. I found a BDS Comanche lift that looks really good but I can't find any info on the company as far as reviews. I just need a dependable lift in a timely manner, from a company that has decent customer service... To much to ask? I'm going to start a thread in the pub with the options I'm looking at if anyone cares to look at it and give some input. Thanks, Ryan.
  13. Yeah its hard to tell what to expect from add-a-leafs on the metric ton leaf pack. Have not really been able to find an answer on what to expect. As for the U-Bolts, yeah looks like they only go on the rear... What can i say, I'm learning something everyday. Never really had a chance to play around with vehicles until now. Hopping to do the instal myself. I will pick up sway bar links for sure. Looking into control arms as well. Going to avoid the shackles if possible. Thanks for the responses.
  14. Hello, I am thinking about pulling the trigger on an old man Emu lift I'm putting together. I am not sure it will sit level... contemplating buying longer shackles as well. Let me know what you think. Truck is a stock 89 Metric ton 4X4, I will be putting on 31" X 10.5 tires/rims from a stock 2006 Rubicon. picking up the following parts: -3" Old man Emu HD front coil springs -Front/Rear Old Man Emu shocks to fit the 3" lift. -Full length Rough Country add-a-leaf springs (The MJ ones not Cherokee) -U-Bolts front and back. -Adjustable track bar I talked to a OME rep about the front coils. He said unless you have a heavy winch bumper the front will sit higher than 3". I don't have a heavy bumper yet but I plan on getting one in the next 6-8 months hence going with the HD (Heavy Duty) version. I talked to the guys at Rough Country about the add-a-leafs they sell with their 3" Comanche lift and they told me I should see 2"-2.5" lift with them but that it would sit level. I have a heavy Hanson MJ bumper on the Rear already and I do pack alot of weight when I camp. So my worry is that the front end will sit higher than the rear. The extended shackles Rocky Road is selling will net 1" lift. Do you think they would be needed? Any input/suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks Ryan.
  15. Just got off the phone with VISA. Looks like I will get the money back but I have lost a month and a half of wheeling. Also because Motion gave no notice any of this was happening I have no idea if they actually shipped the product or not so I need to wait at least another week to see if it shows up before ordering another kit.. and wait another month or so for it to ship. PITA!
  16. Wow... Really hope this isn't the case but bankruptcy was the first thing to go through my mind when I read "Reorganization"... Talk about a summer ruiner.
  17. Sorry, I know this is not the forum for this post but it does get the most traffic. Can anyone please shed some light onto what is happening at Motion Offroad? I have my lift kit coming from them and been waiting quite some time for it. They told me it was shipping June 7th but thats the last I have heard. Their web site has been down for days and I just got an-auto response from their sales e-mail stating "Motion Offroad currently is closed pending reorganization" What does this mean?
  18. I'm looking to get in a 3" AAL kit kit for my 4X4 Metric Ton. Will AAL kits meant for MJ with the longer leaves fit and provide the same lift as Comanche's with out the package? Also if anyone knows suppliers in Canada (Vancouver) that sell MJ lift kits let me know. Shipping is very expensive from the suppliers I have found making MJ kits. Rusty's, Hells Creek, Motion and Rough Country. Anyone with any experience with any of these lifts would also be appreciated. I just picked up a set of Rubicon Moabs on 31's and will be running these on the truck Thanks, Ryan
  19. Thanks. I will change the fluids out and see if that helps the problem.
  20. Hello all, I just picked up another Comanche. It's a 89, 4x4, 4.0, metric ton, with the 5-speed BA-10 Tranny. 240,000KM/150,000MI Transmission feels fine in all gears but reverse. It has started to catch when I try and put it into reverse (Clutch fully depressed of course). When I go to put it in it I can feel it catch and it makes a grinding sound. I can force it in but really don't like doing it. It doesn't do this all the time but in the the last two or three days it happens 7 out of ten times I try and reverse. When the truck is off it moves into gear smoothly. This is my first Manual i have ever owned so its a little new to me. Can anyone shed some light onto this? I plan on doing the AX-15 swap when this tranny goes but was hoping to get a little more time out of it than this. Thanks, Ryan
  21. This is a pioneer. It has the metric ton badge and from what I can tell it has most of these features from when I went to look at it. Now that you mention the recycled codes I will double check a few of the options. The truck seems legit... I really hope I can make a deal on it. Any one know how many metric/ big tons were produced. I imagine it was a pricey upgrade.
  22. As stated in previous post... So I have found a 89 4X4 4.0L stock Metric Ton with D44 and the upgraded leaf springs and tires/rims. that I am thinking of buying, He bought it new, it has 230,000KM (143,000Mi) immaculate condition. Original paint with mint decals and clear coat. Interior is great as well, no rust. So I got the factory build specs from the dealer today. I am curious to know if this was a base model or a top of the line. It seems to have loads more features than my 89 Sport truck. I am curious to know if anything really sets this truck apart as the owner is asking premium dollars for it. Any comments are much appreciated. Afterwards I or an admin can move this info into the registration data base. 23. Thanks Jeepman, I will do that, great idea!
  24. Thanks, I will ask a few more questions. He has recently replaced the starter, that is probably where he got Mitsubishi from. The model is a pioneer.
  25. So I have found a 89 4X4 4.0L stock Metric Ton with D44 and the upgraded leaf springs and tires/rims. that I am thinking of buying, He bought it new, it has 230,000KM imaculate condition. Origional paint with mint decals and clear coat. Interior is great as well, no rust. The thing is that he says he thinks it has a mitsubishi engine or engine parts but it is a straight 6, and a a forign transmission... I said a Peugot tranny and he said ya that sounds right, I'm thinking its the BA-10. Its a 4 speed manual tranny though and I thought the BA-10 was 5 speed. I am unsure of the transfer case, I think NP231 though. Doe's anyone know what would have come stock? Does the Mitsubishi parts make any sense? I'm hoping to get it for 4500 but I'm not sure what I;m getting into. Any input would appreciated.
