I have a reverse glow gauges i plan on installing my comanche. The comanche has a complete 92 Cherokee wiring system and electronic instrument cluster (not driven by cable). The gauges have the turn knob where you can adjust the brightness of the gauges. So the question is.... Is it possible to somehow remove that knob control and wire the reverse glow gauges to the stock controls?

Decided today to go with the 2500 conversion, it looks awesome. I'm working on getting all the parts together! I finally got most the interior out of the comanche and started working on swapping in a heater/ac box out of a 92 Cherokee. I was looking for a little help on the interior. I was wondering if anyone has done a install with the Dakota bench seats, because thats currently the game plan for mine but looking for some suggestions on the brackets and how to make them work. I will post some more pics shortly, been kind of busy. Shortly after knee surgery, my wife had surgery so not much time to work on the lady. -
EngineTech Link: http://enginetech.com/ Has anyone heard of this company or used their parts? If you have used their parts, are they worth it?

Does anyone know it someone makes aftermarket bench seats for the Jeep Comanche?

The firewall is not a issue with mine, it was a later build (Oct 86) so the firewall was already prepped to have 4.0 since they were transitioning the following year. As for the lift, all the offroad clubs and businesses around my area say the SOA is a 4.5 inch lift. I will be purchasing the lift from this site http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=rustys&Product_Code=RK-450SO-MJ&Category_Code=sus_xj_kit -

Its going to be a fun project, my dad will be assisting me with alot of the work since he has been a Jeep mecanic for over 20 years. Also he will have to help and things will be moving a little slow since I will be going under the knive for knee surgery next week and shoulder surgery 3 weeks after that. I want to apologize for the delays in posting time and work getting done ahead of time, I have learned alot from everyones post and hope I can help some as well along the way. SO LETS GET THINGS STARTED! (I will do my best to update every sunday) -

Here is a shot of the License Plate that will legalize the Comance once its on the road. (Wanted GIJOE, but it was taken). So I settled for GI LIFT (In other words "Government Issued Lift") I also realized I didn't post any actual pictures of the MJ when I picked it up, so here are a few! -

So I finally got some more work done! I finished painting the dash pieces and got the floor console from Ebay which I also painted. I included a picture below..... I also got a huge step completed when it comes to being able to work on the comanche. Since I don't have a garage large enough to put the comanche in and work on, I will be keeping it at my parents which will be a 45 minute commute just to do some work but its well worth it. Some pics of organzing nd getting it into the garage. Image Not Found I also got the engine out of a 1990 Cherokee (which will be used to build the 4.7 stroker) on to the engine stand. One other sweet deal was I picked up a donor 92 Jeep Cherokee Donor for $450.00 -
Question about 258 crank for comanche stroker
SGTJHALL replied to SGTJHALL's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Comanche Addict: How much are you looking to get for one of your 258 crankshafts? I might have to spend the money because I can't seem to locate one in my area and they have been really pricey on ebay of late. -
Question about 258 crank for comanche stroker
SGTJHALL replied to SGTJHALL's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 258 (4.2) crankshafts we use as the basis of most of our stroker builds can be found in two basic forms, twelve or four counterweights. The heavier 66 lb., 12 counterweight, with it’s 64mm nose, was in use from 1971 to 1981 and the lighter, 46 lbs., four counterweight crankshafts, in use from 1982 through 1990. This four-counterweight crankshaft can be found in early form with a 64mm nose or in the later 54 mm nose. Both 258 crankshafts use a 3.895" stroke. Many feel the 12-counterweight design is the stronger of the two. All 4.0L crankshafts utilize the same main journal and rod journal sizes as the AMC crankshafts. All 4.0L Crankshafts are nodular iron, use only 8 counterweights and have the 54mm nose. The stroke in the 4.0L engine is 3.44". --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Year_____Crank Casting No._Part No. 1971_____3199738________4488665 For Borg Warner automatic, small pilot 1972-74__3214723________8120508 12 counterweights, 66lb, 64mm nose 1975-79__3214723________8125450 12 counterweights, 66lb, 64mm nose 1980_____3214723________8132619 12 counterweights, 66lb, 64mm nose 1981-86__3235477________3235444 4 counterweights, 46lb, 64mm nose 1987-90__3727___________53005535 4 counterweights, 46lb, 54mm nose 258 block casting numbers 70-'72: 3199962 '73-'74: 3218618, 3222380, 3213867 '75-'79: 3227445, 3224098 '80: 3235077 '81-'89: 3235444 -
Question about 258 crank for comanche stroker
SGTJHALL replied to SGTJHALL's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok so what is the latest year vehicle I can get this crank out of and what models? -
I have heard that some later models like 87-90 have a 258 crank that the snout is already shortened and will fit the 4.0 without any issues, is this true? Also the weight is different on these crankshaft, will that mater when building my stroker. I also was wondering if all the 87-90 cherokees had this same crank or only certain ones?
-
I'm having problems finding a 258 crank and from what I understand is that the Cherokee had the crank needed all the way up to 1990, so my questions are as listed Do all jeep cherokees up to 1990 have the 258 crank in them? I heard the cranks out of 87-90 cherokees don't require the snout to be trimmed for fitment into a later model motor, is this true? I also heard the cranks out of the 87-90 with the snout trimmed already have a different weight and does this matter when doing a stroke on a 4.0. I have a few junkyards around me with some 87-90 cherokees but nothing earlier that might have a 258 crankshaft, and this is one of the last parts I need to figure out before I can start my stroker build on my comanche.
-
Looking for: 258 Rods 258 Crankshaft I have looked every where for these and they have been selling on Ebay for extremely expensive of late. No junkyards in my area even carry motors this old, so anybody that can help please let me know thanks
-
If anybody could help out it would be greatly appreciated. I need this part for my stroker build and can't seem to find one anywhere. Please let me know if you have one and would like to sell it or even if you know someone who has one. Thank You! Once again I'm looking for a: 1999-2002 TJ equal length intake (Part# 4854197AA)

Rear Driveshaft 86 Comanche Question (SOA/ I6, 4.0)
SGTJHALL replied to SGTJHALL's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
lsmurphy The info was very helpful and much appreciated. Its good to know it won't be to expensive, this issue has been holding up my build for the last 2 weeks so thank you! I will let you know how things go after I get the work done! -
I was wondering what MODS are needed for my project. I have a 86 comanche longbed and I'm in the process of swapping out the 2.8 V6 for the Inline 6 4.0 out of a 92 Cherokee. The comanche already has a SOA Lift done to the rear end, which I believe is about makes it about a 4.5 inch lift. I have read that you have to shorten the rear driveshaft to make the swap work because the stock driveshaft is to long. Is this true with a SOA lift, and if so can I find a driveshaft of a comanche longbed that came stock with the inline 6 4.0 and would this fix the issue. Or will the cherokee driveshaft work with the SOA Lift or will my stock comanche driveshaft work with the SOA Lift? I appreciate any help, if nothing above will work does anyone know how I can fix this issue, its really the only thing I need to figure out to be able to get started on the swap and know for sure I can complete it without any issues. I'm trying to stay away from welding, so if I will still have to shorten the stock driveshaft is there anywhere I can by a new driveshaft specifically for such a project.

Well I put together a plan for the stoker build (below is a graph of my plans). I'm still trying to hunt down the parts and compare prices, I'm having a hard time finding the cams and lifters from Mopar Performance. If anyone has any suggestions or locations for the parts please let me know. -

Been busy with work and trying to track down parts for the stroker build. The donor fell through, it wasnt in as good of shape as I first thought, so I'm back on the hunt for a donor. I order a dash of ebay for $45/w free shipping. It came in the mail today. Was wondering if anybody had some info on where I could get a instrument cluster with the rpm gauge at a decent price. I also came up with a new plan for the interior, going to put a overhead console in the MJ from a 92 Jeep Cherokee, and also install a stock sound bar out of the 92 Cherokee as well. Just going to have to find a good way to cut the console down so it fits and also mate the both the console and soundbar together for a nice clean look. Anybody have any suggestions let me know! -

Well today I finally started working on the interior paneling! Its actually a pretty simple process to repaint the interior, I did this when I had my 92 Cherokee and it came out awesome. So first Ill go over the materials: •Palm Sander •Extension Cord •Sandpaper (60, 100, 150, 220, 320, 400, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000) •Dish soap •Sponge •Rubbing Alcohol •Terry Towels •High-Build Primer •Paint •Clear Coat •3M Rubbing Compound •3M Shine Restorer •Wax Remover •Automotive Wax All these items can be bought at Walmart, Menards, and AutoZone So first get all the panels together and look them over for any serious damage. If all is good then let the sanding begin. I use 60, 100, 150, 220 grit sandpaper, after sanding take dish soap and a sponge and whip everything down. After that spray down with a power sprayer to make sure you get any remaing debris and dry the panels. After I dryed the panels I whipped everything down again with a terry cloth and rubbing alcohol. Everything came out nice and clean. After getting everything cleaned up I started with the primer. I used primer filler so that any remaining texture or small dings will be filled in as I put on the coats of primer. Today I decided to do 2 quick coats and then it started raining, so the sanding will have to wait till another day. But if you look at the pictures below so far so good! -

86 Warrior, thanks! I was happy to finally get one but wasnt happy with the price I spent. I do have a pretty good plan lined up, I've been planning this build for about 4 years now. Finally its time to get it underway!
